Morning everyone just wondering if I can pick people's brains before I go my local garage. Went to my range and found a puddle of oil under her, had a look underneath and looks like oil is running down the oil filter with the look of it l. The oil filter is tight, is their any come faults are anyone had a similar issue.

2nd problem I noticed a few weeks back exhaust is pumping steam out when hot and cold, looks like she's using a little water but isn't overheating I'm guessing head gasket is on its way out. What kind of price am I looking to do both head gaskets. If anyone can recommend a competent garage in lancashire close to accrington area

Oil leak clean the area and watch where it is coming from then sort it. Steam from exhaust will not be head gasket if system is not being pressurised. More likely coolant leaking into inlet side of engine somewhere.

Hi,
It does sound like a possible HG failure. Mine gave way last month & HG had split into valley & exhaust was pressuring the top end causing oil leaks from everywhere. I did mine myself this time & wasn't that difficult. I've paid around £450 to have my heads done previously. A little more if both heads need skimming. I'd get a compression test done first though.

If coolant is leaking into a combustion chamber via the head gasket combustion gas can go the other way. If the cooling system is not pressurising it is not the head gasket causing the steam.

Cleaned the area I think it's coming from with clutch and brake cleaner. Can't see exactly were it's coming from but is running down the oil filter. Got it booked in to get everything checked over just in case. Theirs no water in oil and the expansion tank isn't bubbling. Getting a compression test done fingers crossed it's not head gasket. Had two new heads 2 years ago according to history

Possible either the pipe union above the filter of the pressure relief valve cap which is also above the filter!

Head gasket doesn't need ramps. Fairly straightforward apart from getting the damn exhaust manifolds off. The rest is easy.

Checking the pipe union is simple enough, has to be got at from underneath though....as for the pressure relief cap, it is possible to do in situ, but fiddly....
