Just a quicky, if the brake lights on a td5 don't come on after depressing the pedal, and the fuse is still intact, surely that's not a short or bad earth ..is it?
Any ideas what it's likely to be, and before you all ask I have done a fruitless search, strangely most of the threads I searched 'hairy hat man' had posted ' do a search':p

its not a short , it could be a bad erff but as yer bin told more likey the switch

Knackered or worn.

Straight swap, or could be adjusted to factor in the wear and get some more life out of it.

If it's the switch it's easy to check.

1. Find switch
2. Take wires off switch
3. Touch wires together and see if brake lights come on.

It might not be Quite that simple if there are more than two wires on the switch but you get the idea.

Bad Earth?, I thought this was going to be a thread about the effects of 4x4's on the enviroment.

Thank God it wasn't, I was just getting wound up to unleash hell.

Im glad that this is a place for enviromentallists and not those chelsea tractor gas guzzling earth wrecking wheeled motor owners..... Ken L had the right idea to tax them more seeing as ( like BMW drivers ) they can be counted upon to take twice the amount of road up and inflict twice the amount of damage to their victums when they hit pedestrians or cyclists when doing the school run......

Once again good for you considering the enviromentel impact these things do to our world.....

I,m not gonna be made to feel bad or guilty for driving a Discovery !.

I live 1.8 miles up a track, which floods up to 10 times a year !, (water coming over the bonnet of a Rover 75 does not impress the Mrs ! ).
The track is unmade with fields on both sides, up a hill, which is almost impossible when its icy.

The Disco is a great, robust and practicle family vehicle, that astonishingly gets 30mpg !!.

:)

bulbs blown............................ I assume you have checked the bulbs????

Ooh aye ..first job that.
I would have thought it was fairly unlikely for all three to go at once.
As it turned out it was the switch. 6 quid later job sorted.
