My friend's early '04 freelander had a AC socket at the back with a ash tray for rear seat passengers, my early '06 version hasn't got this and instead has a black cover in its place. Is this normal??:confused:

'AC socket'? Do you mean the 12V DC power outlet? Not aware of any AC sockets on F/Landers.

Yes, sorry its the 12V DC power outlet that rear passengers have access to, along with the ashtray.

Seems strange to have it as a factory option, my friend had an SE spec. Anyways, thanks clutchdust for your reply :)

a few years ago when bmw took over land rover, ciggy lighters were an option on discovery and defender!!! The socket was there but had a plastic plug in it.

All to do with cost saving but that was penny pinching and taking the **** a bit!

I'd be interested in part number and cost also. Cable is there and live, so I guess it is a case of changing the rear cover of the arm rest

Cheers

Or just cut a hole (if that is possible of course) in the actual one and mount the cigarette lighter.

STC7927 - Auxillary Power Socket

Not sure on cost, but around the £30-40 which includes wiring, socket, plastics and relay etc.

Steve
