Hello. Sorry not Land Rover but need some advice.
My sons 1996 Toyota Hilux 2.4D has some pressure coming from the oil filler cap when its removed, It also spits spots of oil out, its been like this for a few months now but does start and run very well.
Is this a sign the engines about to go? or can it be sorted??
Had this truck for about 4 years now and never had any problems till now.
Any help or advice will be appreciated. Thanks

Thanks, hope its not the head gasket going.
What should I be looking at with the breather system? what pipes ect??

Which parts do I clean mate.

they usually vent into the air intake somewhere. go find the hose and follow it back. probably some plastic thing. rinse it out with petrol and blow down the hose to make sure it's clear.

+1 to above, there will be a little oil trap/filter somewhere unless it's been removed.

Took the top of inlet off, it was gunked up with sludge/oil, give it a good clean out, put all back together so it was all clear through the breather pipe going in, and still the same. Is there anything else I can try???
Thanks for help so far.

had a google, looks like the crankcase breather is just a tube from the rocker to the air intake.

how old is the engine? also it will have a bit of pressure, but not really heavy.

got a compression tester? could test for worn rings/etc

Its a 1996 156000 mles, but like I said it runs and drives perfect, since I bought 4 years ago. Going to get it tidied up to sell it on, so would really like this sorted. Gonna change all filters and oil, might make a difference.

Check inside the rocker cover, the oil separator/PCV valve for the breather may be in there, if it is, they do block.

Before you take it all apart though, just try blowing down the pipe to see if it's free flowing or not.
