Back door on the disco won't open from the inside or out, took the back panel off it and all the linkages seem to be working when handles and locks are pulled, so I think whatever it thats at fault is in behind the door frame where I can't really see.

I tried getting a screwdriver in amongst it to try and get the door open so I can get a better look but didn't have any luck.

I guess its a broken spring or something but does anyone know the trick to getting it opened and what exactly is involved to fix it.

There is a small spring that breaks on the actual latch. Go along to a LR dealer and all they will do is sell you a new latch.

There is a chap, sometimes has them on ebay and did advertise in LRE selling the springs for a few pounds - a little overpriced but far cheaper than a new latch.

I had this on mine about a year ago, i replaced the spring like Trog say's, and got the spring from ebay for about a fiver.
Think it was about £80 for a new latch!!!!!

If i remember right (had a lot of sleep since!!!!) i think i managed to pull the inner lock button (or whatever there called, thing that sticks up through the door!!!) Pulled that up and pulled the lever from the inside and think that worked you can do it easier with a screwdriver once the panel is off, but i'm assuming your not able to get at the panel to take it off .

There isn't much to it, to do the spring. Once youv'e got the door open, disconnect the rods, undo the torx head bolts on the side of the door think they were T45 or T50 but don't quote me on that!!!
The latch should come out through one of the holes where the panel goes, but can be a bit tricky and needs abit of fiddling.
Once it's out it's pretty easy to see how the spring goes, i did try repairing mine first but that didn't work, more hassle than a fivers worth!!!

Hope this helps.

Hi had a similar prob on mine a while ago, i think to open it i had to hold up the lock button inside and get someone to open the door from the outside, changed the spring, purchased from e bay ,lots of cursing etc but up to now all ok,ps comes with instructions on how to fit spring too, good luck regards,Mark

Yea mine was the same !!
Same as the others have said you can get it on ebay or make your own out of a pen!! springs just twist the end to hook on the latch from the top and at the bottom!!

To open when Bust Just pull the lock up and open !!!

Its a pain when its fully loaded but hey !!

Also the next thing will be your door mechanism !!!!! mine went too bt now fixed !!!! and no I didnt buy a new mechanism !"!!

mine must be on its way out too. its really hard to open. you have to lift the feckin door up first.
pain in the arse.

Try www.disc-compatible-parts.com

this guy sells the springs that break in the lock mechanism.....

Do you find that you have to hold up the lock latch or turn and hold the key when pulling handle to open.........if you do you need these new springs....whole kit for £14...
Ive got 3 doors that now have this problem ......will be fixed soon though....he also sends colour instructions and was very helpful on the phone

Hi Discomania, I had the same trouble with my 300 about 2 months ago, wouldnt open from the inside or outside, It was getting late so I sprayed loads of WD40 on the lock mechanism and left it for the night, went to it in the morning and it opened. I then set to lubing it properly and I have not had any more problems. I am a bit paranoid now though and lube it once a week, but I never replaced any parts or adjusted anything, it was just a sticky machanism. Hope this helps, Wilbur.

Right ok, yeah I noted the guy on ebay with these springs, these I will fit (all door getting dodgey).

I will go and try these door opening methods and see what happens.

Cheers!

This may sound silly but here goes. Is the lever for opening door sticky. It has to go right back to the lower position to reset catch to open. remove landrover badge and push lever down with scredriver. Bad for sticking at fulcrums
