whats reasonable for a B service for my 2014 defender? Land Rover want £556 which is a bit over the top for 3 hours work. Surely you can get a good service for half that at an Indi garage using proper parts.

That is a lot of money! Which is why I do my own servicing. Costs me under £100 for quality oil, oil and air filters, oil for the diffs, squirt a bit of grease into the UJ's. The rest is just inspecting and checking brakes and running gear, costs nowt unless there's some worn out items. Brake fluid is normally replaced at the B service, but not included in the main dealers price - usually they want extra for that.

As above, DIY. far better than the main stealers, and you know exactly what has been done, and not done.

I plan to service it myself once the warranty is up next year. Does anyone know a good Indi in the west Lothian or Edinburgh area?

What do you get for a B service and we can tell you if £556 is a good price or not. Doesn't much sound like it but I don't know what your getting.

This is one I found some time ago, not UK sheet and a few years old but good enough for me

Main dealer is £100 per hour+VAT.
We were quoted over £700 for a service on our TD5 back in 2007 when it was two years old.
I used the lndy every year who were half the price.
But now l service both our TD5's myself....it's easy to do. Just keep parts receipts for the service history.
