I had new seals put on when my brakes were done in November. Looks like the seals need doing again. I've heard that when the axle gets rough, the hub seals go quick. A chap I know has suggested I use gasket goo. Anyway. I'm wondering if I should just put a drum brake axle on? I don't want to, as I'm not into making any modifications beyond the 300tdi and gearbox that was put in (originally a 2.5 1992). What would you do?

That looks quite extreme, I'd get it looked at ASAP to make sure there not bolts loose or missing

You need to find out where it’s leaking from. The brake disc looks as thought it’s wet/oily.

Yeah I've deleted my bloody pics today, but when my discs and shoes were done, someone said something about a seal being at the other side of the hub of the axle, but the chap doing it said there wasn't a seal behind the hub and plate that the discs go on. I'll have to take it somewhere to be looked at asap. I have another leak which looks like the gearbox. It needs an assessment so I'll book it in.

I seem to remember there being 2 seals on my RR, but it was about 15 years ago I did it

chck the breather but unless its ann early rrc axle it shouldnt have oil in the hubs ,300tdi has an oil seal in stub axle pre 300 use a second seal in outer of hub and before that it was an actual oil seal rtc3511, later seals wont seal against oil just grease
Cheers for that James. I'll go into a garage with ramp lifts and tell them exactly what you've wrote. I think it might be an early one as the first garage I took it to who ripped me said something about a place where oil is put in the axle. Originally a 2.5 1992.

You can check the breather isn't blocked yourself. Either take the breather pipe out the axle (you'll find it if its there lol) and blow thru it or remove the FILLER plug at the top of the axle oil pan and listen for a hiss of escaping air as you loosen it. If it hisses, the axles pressurising and blowing oil out your seals...that's my understanding anyway..

I started a new job 2 weeks ago and 30 motorway miles round trip x 5 days. It's only happened this week sometime. Do you reckon it's an ASAP job as Kev says above (as in tomorrow) or will it wait til next Saturday d'ya reckon?

I'd say ASAP mate, I wouldn't want to do many miles on that.

Post some pics of the axle, I'll bet someone on here ( @jamesmartin ;)) will I.d it for you if its not original

No seal on the back of the hub? Really? That's the seal on the wheel bearing they are talking about isn't it? Did they just think they could put it back together with no seal in there, really?
