As the subject suggests, I'm putting some additional 12v sockets in the 90, is it best to wire them via a relay as my other stuff is of stright to the socket?

A relay is a way of switching something on and off using another circuit.
So if you only want a socket to be live when the ignition is on then you could use a relay.
Otherwise it makes more sense to fit a sensible sized fuse before the socket.

Fuse both sides as well. Use a twin fuse holder alongside the socket and fit a wee fuse on your ignition side and whatever you need on the load side. That way if you you ever have a problem (months or years later) all the bits are there and you're not trying to remember where you hid the in-line fuse.

You really shouldn't need a relay - connecting the socket to an ignition swithched live feed (with an inline fuse) should do the job.
