Will be carrying out a chassis swap on my 1996 300tdi 90 soon and thought I'd replace the chassis loom. Has anyone used the autosparks chassis loom?
Where does it terminate? I'm assuming it will go up to and include light plugs on rear?
Where does it terminate at the front?

I fitted one to my 90 a couple of years ago, during chassis swap.

As stated above it connects to main loom on bulkhead, goes right back to and includes multi plugs and bullet connectors for rear lights.

I think it may be the same one for a 110, cos there was a lot of excess length on it.

Couple of slight niggles with it, but still better than trying to repair a butchered 20 odd year old loom.
 
Mine is still going strong after 15 or so years and its been fitted outside the chassis.
 
Thanks for the replies. That's ideal. Hopefully I'll get all the wiring replaced eventually.
 
Does it allow for towbar connection too?
It comes fitted with lucas bullet terminals which fit into lucas 4 way connectors which you then plug your towbar electrics into.
(That's how I did mine anyway)

I've just fitted one to my 90 300TDI refurb, great quality, tow bar as above simply connect to 3 multi plugs on the bulkhead in the engine bay, I bit the bullet and fitted a new bulkhead/front loom at the same time

Thanks for that, what is the bulkhead loom? As in what areas does it go to? Complete interior including speedo etc?

Also did you manage to feed it through the chassis OK? I've heard alot ofvpeople say theyve left it externally
 
6mm air line was used as a draw wire as you can twist it etc around chassis internal bits

Excellent thankyou. I've got proper nylon electricians mouse draws so hopefully thatll do. I've heard that its nigh on impossible to get the plugs through
 
You don't have to hack the loom to fit tow electrics, it's just fitting bullets on wires from the tow socket and plugging them into the correct 2 or 3 way female sockets.
Feed the loom from the front to the rear. I sent mig wire down the chassis straight from the torch and taped the loom to that to pull it through. Had to go back and forth a few times when pulling it through as it got snagged. This was on a 110.

No, if you look at the Autosparks website you will see they do sub-harnesses and the instruments are included in one of them. The bulkhead loom is the main harness of which the majority is routed around the bulkhead.

Although I am also buying a new Autosparks loom, in the past I have had trouble with one of their sub-harnesses.
After a few years I started getting intermittent faults with the wipers and to cut a long story short, it turned out to be a fault in the moulded plug at one end of the harness. Repair was carried out by cutting off the plug and using individual connectors.
