Well... picking up a 2001 auto on Sunday.
Wondering if it's a Jatco or Getrag and how to tell, and if there's any practical difference between the two for me?
 
Lol thats hilarious! I thought there was 2 types of auto boxes fitted depending on when made! Well, if I can't tell the difference between a manual and an auto there's something wrong. (Some people already tell me there's something wrong with me if I like Freelanders this much!)
 
I had no regrets getting the td4 auto hse.
(No regrets getting rid of it either). I don't miss the sub 25mpg around town, which is where mine spent most of its time.
I will never buy a manual again.
Probably not a petrol or diesel engine either, but that's another story!

Absolutely brilliant off-road. Mud or snow, but I did always use winter tyres as I like to stop and go round corners. Don't rate AT tyres as high in snow or ice.

Oh, mine had a 40mm lift and larger tyres.
 
Those larger tyres wouldn't have helped with the fuel usage. Larger = heavier and increased rolling resistance ... could effect it by as much as 7 to 8% more fuel used.

I was thinking that there was something wrong with it. My D3 does just undder 25 Mpg round town. It is almost twice the weight of a Freelander and has a 2.7L V6 diesel. A TD4 Freelander should be much better than a D3 on fuel.
 
Picked the car up. Runs great, very smooth compared to my old facelift manual! No clunks, bangs or rattles at all. VCU was changed last year, and it's amazing how free it feels compared to other's I've driven. Only thing is the ABS trio lights up sometimes... will have to do some searching about that. Oh and the sunroof doesn't work, but that's not a surprise!
