so dose anyone know of an adapter plate that would fit on the back of the gearbox when i remove the transfer box to convert it to 2wd (will be using a remote transfer ), or have i got to make my own ?
Having run and been a member of kit car clubs for over 30 years I am quite used to all the hassles one can have with SVA, IVA ,highly modified vehicles etc.well i guess most of us know it all depends who you talk to at dvla and where in the country you are, i see the electric car converters are having issues with reg numbers/V5s being withdrawn for things as minor as drilling a 10mm hole in a mini boot floor to pass a cable through, thats a modified shell apparently

its been 20 years plus since i owned a landrover but im pretty sure its an autobox,Not sure what you are doing but am confused not hard too do though.
The pics show a manual box vehicle and yet you keep talking about an auto.
But either way there were cars fitted as 2wd with both the hp22 or the R380 so you need to check which 1s, but as a start look at the BMWs and some Jags for the auto and the old rover SDIs for the manual. Probably easier to get the whole box then maybe only change the belhousing, as I am sure the rear would end up needing a different tail shaft and housing which would mean a gearbox strip down to change (guess, so do some research).
If it’s gonna be 4wd why are you bothering with this.

Also people put all sorts of stuff on "just to pass IVA" then take them off to the extent that sometimes an inspector will grin ruefully and say "What are you going to put on once you get registered?!"
Jobsworths exist everywhere and IVA etc is a jobsworth's paradise!
But that hole is a nonsense. If you have a rusthole in a body/chassis you are allowed to weld a pathc in to pass the MOT so if blokey welded a hole up then he is just resoring the integrity of the vehicle.
If that had been me I'd have gone potty and taken it to court.
At the very least it would have proved that the law is an ass!
hello happy tinkerer here
one of the reasons for wanting to remove the transferbox and bolt up a closing plate then slip a flange on the splines is that it makes for a much shorter gearbox compared to a rwd box, heres a pic of a 4 speed auto in 2wd format in one of my jago's ( ex v8 ambulance drivetrain ) it has all that tailshaft doing bugger all when space is at a premium when youve only got 93" or so of wheelbase, an extra 6" makes all the difference, well so the wife said
yes thats more or less it i cant see the point of messing with a 2wd gearbox when all i have to do is remove the TB and its shorter and all the shift points will be in the right place etcSo are you saying you want to do away with the yellow bit, then keep the red bit?

Then put the transfer box somewhere else?.
Might sound harsh but the tailshaft housing is hardly any smaller than the TB in the first place so for the faff of a remote TB.
Until you really divulge what you want then we are all just running around in the dark.

You should pop up to 4w motors(by M42 earlswood junction) they should have knowlage of gearboxes. I remember a 4.6 escort they had and other crazy cars like an 3.9 opel manta.
Take tea bags & sugar to get your foot in the door
So you must have seen rockys escort… the good old daysi was at 4w motors last sunday, i know they dont open sundays but richard is always there, ive known Rocky for 20 odd years and his farther Micky for another 15 or 20 years at skilts farm and before that at scribers lane and yes i bought many a box of tetly tea bags there lol
