Finally getting my disco sorted, just one little niggle... every now and again, when trying to start, nothing happens... but if I keep flicking the ignition key on and off, it then catches, and is fine for a while.. if it was a manual, its as if the ring gear was worn, or starter sticking... any idea's, its a 03 td5 auto.... thanks

Not sure if you have already had some advice on this one but my 99 Disco 2 had a similar problem and it was found to be the starter motor. A new one has fixed my starting problem but I had been down a rabbit hole with the autobox XYZ inhibitor switch that stops you starting in drive before a friendly garage told me I was barking mad. Bought a brand new starter from britishparts.co.uk (not Brit Part) and no problems now. Stripped down the old starter to see what the problem was and, for the life of me, couldn't see a defect in brushes, commutator etc. Good luck

mine does this as well, it seems to start if i wriggle the gear stick about a bit but its had a new xyz switch already, im having the starter done under warranty next week il let you know if it sorts it or not

Has the swiych been set up propper?
Why wud it be the starter, if it happens when yu wiggle the gear lever?

wiggling the selector, doesn't make any difference on mine, just flicking the ignition key, back and forth, so could be starter I guess

TD5's are renowned for starter motor issues. Have a look on ebay for the repair kits. They are a fraction of the cost of a new starter.;)
