is this the same part UK stealers are trying to charge me £400 for?
Discovery XYZ Transmission Shift Switch
if so I have a plan

the only problem is the part number doesn't seem to be the same

It's the same part but IMO it doesnt worth to risk with a used part in this area... here u have cheaper than 400 XY Gear Selector Switch UHB100190 Island 4x4 - Specialists in Land Rover and Range Rover Parts and accessories for all models. UK and worldwide mail order. , or google out the part number maybe u'll find even better

there was a post on here recently about repairing them cheaply using another broken one. there was a link to an aussie site with details.

Ashford Engineering (the transmission people) sell used checked ones at around £75 IIRC. I'd trust them.

Actually it's ashcroft - web site here.

It seems the switches are now £90 but still much cheaper than new.
