you'll get plenty of practice towing it!! mpg is around 11-12 town/local and upto 21 on long runs which is **** poor in todays world but it doesn't matter as you will have around 4 litres of v8. the drive is very good. the comfort etc is excellent and just driving a range rover puts a smile on my face.
get one(in my opinion) that has the problem areas sorted out if possible.
do a good search of this site and you will find a raft of faults that are common. also there is no way of telling what will happen a few months down the line but i would try and get a sniffer test to check for hyro carbons in the coolant and also(dunno if it would show much) a endoscope would be handy to check for andy internal problems with the engine. i.e ceramic sealer bieng used in the coolant, liner condition in the chambers and all the other little niggly areas the eye cant get to!!

As for MPG if youve got an old 3.9 like mine it will be ****e so who cares about mpg when towing if your only getting 16-18 to the gallon anyway..

i agree with gavbriggs. the rangie is outstanding at towing, mines a 4.6 so i get about 12 mpg about town, but who cares. you really are king of the road. get a good one with no niggles and your laughing.check your eas, make sure it drops into access quickly, and sits comfortably in normal ride height. i doubt you'll check everything, and you will get some problems in the future, but dont let that put you off, i've never looked back. kicked it a few times, but never looked back! good luck mate.

global warming is a good thing as the blend motors usually pack up and you can bet they'll be stuck in cold mode in winter!!
on a serious not i would make a list of problems( we could do with a sticky on this subject) and checks and take the list to every car viewing you got to.
that way at least you won't forget anything when(if yr like me) your head goes all fuzzy and yr knees tremble as the v8 madness sets in and hands loads of cash over without using logic and common sense!!
also, if you buy from a dealer you will pay a bit more so make sure the car is in top condition and anything that doesnt work is a cost so dont let the dealer flumax you into thinking its an easy fix! don't forget its a buyers market and you will find a choice of cars. as always cash talks and dont be too embarrased to go in upto a grand lower than asking price as this sets a base line when talking cash. work out what you are prepared to pay and beat him(not literally) into making the deal thats right for you. be very prepared to walk away and DO. a good trick is to leave your number on one of his cards with the reg no and price you offered, but don't hang around as he may not call!! have the cash there with you, if he want 4k and you want to pay 3.6k have the 3k in one bundle and then seperate the rest into hundreds, that way you can lob £250 down quite easy in steps and watch how his face looks. you'll see the moment he is in profit and you know where you stand. if say you agree on 3.5k and you were prepared to pay 3.6k ask for a tank of fuel or a valet or next mot or anything you can squeeze just to make that little extra special deal!!
don't forget your under no obligation to pay his mortgage!! and take the car for a long test drive, dont forget the cruise control too as this is one of the best inventions ever if your a bit idle like me!!
ooh, one last thing, get the wife to sit in your car or have her mobile ready and at a crucial moment ring you and make out that a car you enquired about is available again as the previous deal has fallen through and you had your heart set on it from the begining, make an arrangement to go see it later on/as soon as youve finnished there, even rush off to go have another look!
be devious and ruthless, dealers are and will try every trick in the book to get yr cash!!!

i get between 16/18 to work and back every day. been on along drive to north wales where got 25/26mpg. i dont thrash it, jusy amble along and enjoy it. i tell you what tho my 4ltr is quick . 74k from new service history up to 60k. jap import and it standard every way. well impressed with it.97 4ltr se model
there is a performance loss due to the calorific value of lpg bieng lower than petrol but if you want performance, go for something that doesnt weigh 2.7 ton! they are not fast cars, but then again they are not made to be fast, they are made to plough through just about anything and they do.
if you want to beat the boy racer at the lights, switch to petrol and then back to gas when he is in your rear view mirror!
the relatively cheap price of lpg outweighs the loss of performance if you going on long journeys as at 70 mph on a motorway you wont notice. in fact for most day to day stuff you won't even know yr on gas!!

Just got mine back from LPG service. Runs sweet on LPG now. I have to say the performance on gas is marginally different but the 4.6 V8 has awesome grunt and smoothness, so it doesn't affect my enjoyment driving it. In fact, having filled up with 50lts gas for just under £25, if anything it enhances the pleasure. RR V8 for the MPG of a Mondeo!
Get a good one and expect to pay 1900 to convert, but you may get a better deal in the current financial climate. Go to comparelpg website and they'll send you a quote for an installer near you.
you can tell a lpg driver as he is the only one smiling when filling his car up!
