Evening,

Td4 auto has just covered 501mile since I parted with £1500 for a 120k service and a load of little fixes. Including fixing a switch on the auto box to enable the sport mode.

Tonight I jumped in the van to go home from work but I could not get the gearbox to select a gear. Lever moved (too freely) up and down, but stuck on P.

In the end I wiggled it after ten gnawing mins into D and got home.

Noticed after the service that the gearbox surround was a bit looser than before.

Is it likely to be a loose connection? Something that an idiot such as myself could suss out?

Mark

Ps I did search auto box / selector and read a lot about the auto gearbox oil...

at that price I would phone them and tell them to either come and put it right or tow it free of charge to their garage

They came out today. Tried to fix on the drive. Problem : small white plastic retaining clip on the end of the cable broken. They said it was not part of what they fixed, but agreed to do it FOC. (James was right)

They put it into D and I drove it down to Dakar. They gave me a dirty great Kia auto "taxi" as a courtesy car.

I might nip out tonight and try out the taxi, clock up a coupla thousand miles :)
