I have a discovery 3.9 V8i auto the box changes ok from 1 to 2 then it sometimes changes to 3 at 3000 rpm and sometimes much higer then the change 3 to 4 is ok the auto oil is a dirty brown colour i know it should be red is this the problem  or could it be somthing else;)

Sounds like its not been serviced a lot!!!!

Change all the autobox filters and oil, Just doing the oil wont cure your problem!!!!! :D

ok ? just picking up on that .. where are the filters they arent shown in the haynes manual . am going to change the oil and filters on mine so would dearly love to know where they are an d how to do this job

I couldnt find it it the haynes either so i booked it in at a local auto centre £90 all in so they can get full of oil give me a break:)

Same car V8 auto
This problem started for me 8 months ago and has not been resolved. I am getting desperate although the difficulties have been eliminated gradually (spent about 3500 pounds this year!)
It concerns the auto gear - not the torque converter, not the valve body, not the gear box, not the drive (all new) - most probably a pressure problem and oil distribution (as I told them last September).
Catch 22 - can't sell it until it works - then I probably wouldn't want too.
Help please at the moment LR garage is checking AGAIN

I dont know how good you guys rate your mechanics or garages, but if i can offer anyone to talk to i would suggest these guys regarding auto box problems:

Robb's Garages

Claremount Rd
Wallasey
CH44 2BW
(0151) 638 1384

They have a reputation second to none, proper guys who rebuild and make parts if needed. Ive used them in the past and they are genuine as. They will help you over the phone if they can, worth a try.

After changing oil and filters then kickdown assembly I decided to get rid as the only solution was a new box so sold it and got a BMW
