Hi, any advice as to changing oil and oil screen of disco 1 auto box. Haynes say it's " involved"! Also, ABS light is on sometimes, but brakes are fine. It's a '96.

Diff lock are wrong (See Link) - I Know for a fact a disco 2 auto box is not sealed for life. Think it recommends an oil change every 24K.

Hello,

I just changed my transmission filter after 273,000km. The pan screws all came off easily except the rear one. I had to loosen off (and almost completely remove) the transmission mount to get to the bolt head. This added about 2 hours to the job (had to support the rear of the transmission before removing the mount).
The mistake I made, was forgetting about the amount of oil left in the filter and it ended up all over me and the floor.
Otherwise it worked out fine. The vehicle certainly goes better with the new oil. After many weeks discussons with the dealer mechanics and reading many Landy Zone forum experiences, I concluded Dexron III was the appropriate oil to use on my vehicle (1995 TDI Disco Auto).

Not easy with the V8 either as the exhaust has to be removed, so I get someone else to do the job :)

as for the ABS i have found that removing the sensors giving them a clean and re-fitting fixed my ABS Light problems.

Search for the ABS fault codes on here , no need for testbook (initially at least) , but they generally just tell you its a sensor fault so you wont go far wrong by cleaning them up and knocking them into contact again . Other than that I have had the brake pedal switch unit cause some fault light problems on a few D1s .
