Finally managed to get some time to change the oil on my 2003 td4, so warmed it up, removed filler plug, removed 14mm overflow plug (small amount of oil drained out) removed 24mm drain plug and approx 2 litres of oil drained out. So topped up via top filler, but only 2 litres went back in?? I thought it was supposed to be around 4 litres? Have i made a daft mistake or is ok?
help appreciated

2 out, 2 back, that’s fine , the rest is in the system and torque converter, hippo put some good info up, probably in faq/ Freelander

Was the engine running when checking the level? If it's not running the level will be incorrect. The box fluid needs to be at about 40°C when level checking, and all gears need to cycled too.

Engine wasn't running, i will re-check the level tomorrow eve, and check for reverse. Will post my results. Cheers

With engine not running and presuming the level was correctish in the 1st place.

1.Roughly 2 liters will come out of the level check plug.
2.Roughly 4 liters will come out the bigger drain plug.

if you do 1st then 2 will only drop roughly 2 liters.
