I'm new to auto boxes.
Why does it bang when it goes into reverse?
It didn't do it two weeks ago when I bought it, have I been shafted again or can I fix it.
ALSO...does one check the gearbox fluid with the engine running?

This on yer 3.9 classic?Check the level with the injun running.start her up put her in d put her in r then n.Then check the level.If it looks brown-black get it changed.If its low top it up.come back to us on the condition and i suppose the exspurts will go from there....Thought an hexpurt wud ave chirped up by nowis it that bad then

The oil was changed two years ago according to the service records but I'll drop it anyway and see if I can clean the filter (Never done that before) if it's not too difficult.
In fact I'll go and check the level now ..:bolt:back soon.![]()

Car not run today so cold.
Started tha hinjun and selected D then R then D then R then d then Park.
the transmission hardly thudded at all, just a hint of a thud when going from R to D and vice versa.
Cleaned the dipstick and checked the oil whilst engine still running, the oil is red and clean and is on the mark. Dipped it several times wiping the stick after each insertion (oooh aaar missus) and its on the mark.
Really does thud after a run though.![]()
sounds like the oil is in ok nick.might be worth dropping it for the sake 20quids worth of atf but might b summit worse.or it might just be character.![]()
and sell whats left on fleabayso much character youll have to trailer the rest away?
