Evening guys

Would appreciate your views on auto 300tdi's, i've been offered one cheap for off roading - is the auto box any good for serious offroading?? Also is changing it from an auto to a manual box a big deal / possible?

cheers

good thing about an auto is it won't lose traction as you change gear as a manual would as you dip the clutch, mpg is of course lower than a manual though.

I am currently using an disco 300tdi auto. To be frank, I will not go back to manual. The disco is used mainly for trials, laning trips, towing caravan and tip runs. It's lifted 3" and running bigger tyres. I still get about 27mpg, so not unhappy about it.

The advantage of an auto are :
- no manual gear change (obvious, isn't it)
- no clutch to change, just need to check your transmission oil periodically and change oil/filter every 2 years
- car wont stall while offroading
- no traction lost while offroading
- no gear change while offroading, hence concentration could be given 100% to the road
- much better on hill start....foot off brake, foot on accelarator...and goes

Just my tuppence,

I got an Auto 300 tdi, and I like it on and off road.

squirt and go easy.......and enjoy the ride.
