Eventually got the Defender 1.4 Transfer box on.

Pleased and frustrated in equal measures! It now locks up at 52mph (not 59mph as it did before) and pulls better because of the lower gearing/higher revs. At slower speeds, the torque converter is losing any benefit! Roll on a HD TC or a V8 TC.

Anybody know what this is on the old TC?

I take TC as a torque converter.. so what old TC?

I'm trying to understand your question "Anybody know what this is on the old TC?" as u haven't posted a picture of it, not that I have much knowledge on TCs

I'm aware of Ashcroft's products but obviously i'm not that interested. :)

interlock with light switch to inhibit hi/lo change

So it its the transfer box and not a torque converter then this is what Rave states:

"A shiftlock device is fitted in some territories, it is used as a park facility and prevents accidental gear disengagement when the ignition is switched off. An audible neutral alarm is also fitted. This alerts the driver when parking to move the gear lever to the high or low position".

It is ex-Jap. It never made any noises before or after removal. No warning lights are on. :D
