You obviously haven't tried the link I gave you which contains all the infor you wanted including a cutaway drawing:p

Again it is you Datatek that is miss reading or the likes. As I said above:

...see if they had any cut-away drawings of the Gen II's to see if the lower was the same as the Gen III's.

That page on RangeRovers.net covers the GEN IIIs and not the GEN IIs which are the ones I was asking if they had the same lower piston design as the Gen IIIs.

Anyway, already got an answer from the factory, it looks like they don't. Here is what I got back from them:

"...With regard to your inquiry; The lower piston design on the Arnott Gen III is CNC machined aluminum. The lower piston design on the Arnott Gen II is plastic, similar to the OEM. If choosing the Gen III, it is recommended to replace in pairs due to the ride difference, whereas the Gen II is designed more for the OEM ride feel. Excellent questions..."

Can I ask a question... What is your objective here and what has led you to the decision of Gen III or springs ?

Getting a tad fed up of having to plonk in new bags every so often and I have never been that over the moon with the ride when in highway mode, too ruddy soft and skitish.

I have read that these Gen IIIs offer a firmer ride when in highway mode and a less rigid one when in the off-road setting and that is what I would like. The extra 2 inches or so lift isn't a deal breaker, yeah, nice, but it is not what will make my mind up.

As for the spring side of the question, simple, if the Gen IIIs are not what they are made up to be, then I will be thinking about fitting springs.

How often are changing the bags ? I put the Arnott Gen II's bo both the P38's they both ride firmly in highway setting, nothing skittish, ruddy or soft, off road they perform well. The Arnott bags are supposed to be slightly stiffer than the OEM dunlops.

I would be very wary of putting spings on, there are a few threads dedicated to this and its also worth bearing in mind that under forthcoming EU rules a coil sprung converted RR may not meet road requirements

At the mo I have been popping in new ones every 3 to 4 years and I have heard that the Gen IIIs last a lot longer. In this thread someone mentioned 8 years between changing.

Yep, I know and over here in Portugal the powers that be are right A-holes. By law, you even have to have things like snorkels, winch bumpers and in some cases, under part protection stated down in the log book! With the winches, now you can only fit synthetic rope ones as the wire ones with the rollers are a big no no.
 
Skittish or soft, = shocks, bushes & maybe tyres.
I did not exactly missread, your original post was about GenIII's and I stuck with that.
OEM bags should last 7 years, Gen II's were originally guarnateed for life, this has now been reduced to 2 years. Material quality is better than OEM IMO but I don't know what the life will be, mine still look like new.
 
Well, I have gone and made up my mind, Gen IIIs it will be plus +2 inch shockers just to take advantage of the extra length in the articulation. Not going to be bothering about doing any lift though as I think as they are they are good enough especially with the extra 2 inches.

Should be interesting to see how she handles in some of the places I get into and I am especially interested in seeing how the LSDs cope.

You will need the mod kit for the height sensors I think.
Gen III's are a waste of cash unless you are into serious off roading and they will last no longer than Gen II's which ride perfectly well.

You are right about the sensors, but by what I can make out, only if you do the "2 inch" lift. As I will not be either changing the ride height values, nor adding any form of "lift" kit, the sensors shouldn't really hit any problems.

The only time anything odd might happen is if and when I might be doing stuff that puts it's articulation at it's max, but even then I don't see any big problem. The only thing I can see it doing then is going into the "extra" height setting.

Either way, I will keep you updated.

Full articulation with 2" extra movement will take the sensors beyond the end of their travel.

You cannot get any extra articulation unless the shockers are changed. Only then will the sensor arms need changing.
 
No I did not, I said nothing about shocks so I cannot have made an error, :p:p:p

That particular answer could have been taken that way considering what the OP had posted immediately before it. Simply changing to GENIII cannot give extra articulation. So sensors cannot go out of range. :);)
