Hello to you all and thanks for the help before but I still don't know where I can get longer shocks for my p38 if I fit arnott gen3 . I keep looking and drawing a blank , I maybe thick :) can someone please help
 
The standard Terrafirma shocks (TF125 and TF126 from the top of my head) are standard length. If you need longer shocks you can fit other units from Terrafirma. According to RR.net this would be:
The TF-125 (p38 std front) for the rear
TF-121 (D-90 rear +2") for the front

If you do go this route, please give us some feedback on how they work.
 
I have a p38 with a 4" coil lift. I know that the front shocks fit straight into the rear and give more droop, in the front of mine I have rear classic +5" cellular dynamic shocks. The top bush is slightly different all that is needed is a small tube to fit inside the rubber bush.
 
Thanks for replys will the other shocks that will fit just fit on or will they have to be made to fit. I feel that I'm getting closer to the info I need ,I maybe able to start spending some money soon and get my rr back on 4 bags without any splits my sure it wants to be a hover craft :)
 
I have fitted Gen III air bags.
I bought new OEM front shocks and fitted the old front shocks on the rear. They allow extra lift. To take advantage of the increased lift you can get with Gen III's you also need to extend the rear sensor arms. The easiest way is to buy an extension arm kit from rover renovations.

Rear Height Sensor Extensions, '93-'02 Range Rover

Easy enough to fit but need to cut and thread the arms. The heights then need re calibrating which you can do with the free EAS software.

Hello dave it's good to hear from someone who has fitted gen3 to there p38 , I'm now hoping you can help me even more than you have every one is telling me something different about what I need to get , and your the man that has already got !! What do I need to buy or replace to fit them brake lines ,shocks, ect anything that you needed to do to get these gen3 up and running I'm running out of time and don't want to go with plan b (gen2 and keep everything the same) I want the extra lift so please help dave
 
Glad to assist. I can only comment on what I have done myself.
The standard OEM front shocks are OK with Gen III's as are the front level sensors.
The problem is on the back. Standard shocks are too short to take advantage of the increased lift. The cheapest way is as I said - fit front shocks to the rear. They bolt straight on. I bought new OEM Boges. Thought it better to fit the new ones on the front and transfer the old front ones to the rear. I now have Boge front all round. Handling is fine though you will find that Gen III's are firmer at std ride height and softer off road.
The rear height sensors are a problem. Try to raise the height by recalibration and it soon goes out of range. Solution is to extend the sensor arms. Easiest and cheapest way is to buy the kit I mentioned from Rover Renovations in the States (about $20).
You need to follow the instructions carefully. It involves cutting the sensor arms and threading the cut end. The kit is unified thread not metric.
I also fitted Goodridge stainless steel braided brake hoses all round which from memory I think were 2" longer. Been a while since I did it. As an alternative I guess you could keep the std hoses and lower the brackets. Just modify the copper pipes to suit.
The standard brake hoses are only a problem if a wheel drops down in a gulley or something. Obviously the heights need re calibrating all round.
My car is standard for motorway and normal ride heights but the off road setting is about an extra 2" over the factory setting. Had it more than 3" higher at first but it was like a bouncy castle off road. I think the dampers were out of range then !!!
I lowered the rears a bit and it is now acceptable.

Does this shock arrangement allow for full bump stop compression of the shocks at the rear?

Yes it does. Though I thought I had better double check since you asked!

I drained the air off the EAS it I can confirm it does sit on the (factory) bump stops all round.

So on full compression on the rear the axle will hit the bump stop first rather than the damper bottoming out.

I have now fitted gen3 and all is good still haven't fitted the longer sensor arms to the back as don't know where to start .
 
I think you can increase the off road height by +1" all round without the standard rear sensors going out of range. Been a while since I did it as I now have extended arms fitted. It is easy enough to try out.

You can't get the full 2" extra lift that Gen IIIs allow without the rear extensions. The fronts are no problem. Standard ones will go +2".

As I mentioned previously I got mine from Rover Renovations in the US but the guy I think has exited the p38 retail business. You might try 996TURBO. I think he does his own version.

I also got mine from there but don't really understand how they fit yet , need to look in to it . I'm sure what I got sent through is right but thought there would be more to it
 
You have already got the Rover Renovations extensions? It is just a simple joint which screws on to the end of the sensor arm. It is necessary to cut the end off and thread the arm. Top section of the arm also needs to be bent to keep the geometry right. I made up a jig to assist.

It is essential to follow measurements in the instructions exactly.

Try a PM to 996turbo on here. He's supplying parts for off-roading P38s so may have a source.
