:mad:I have spent the last month looking for a 2004 on, 3 door FL1 that isn’t dropping to bits. I don’t mind a bit of work but some of the cars out there are silly money for real basket cases, or is it I am looking in the wrong place?

Looked at one yesterday £2000 it was advertised for prop bearings were shot, sounded like you were driving with rusty brakes on all the time, drivers seat had chunks out of it but it was photographed brilliantly so you couldn’t see that or any of the rust on the rear door.

Hopefully today’s journey will be more fruitful.
 
Difficult to find a good one. I'd buy a nice condition 3dr if one came up locally, as a base for an EV conversion.
I don't mind if the engine is fubar, as that'd be coming out anyway. :eek:

However the issue is finding an FL1 with good bodywork, that's not for sale for "dreaming" money. :oops:
 
I watch for anything local and it does seem prices are going up. The last few years prices have been stupidly low, good vehicles for the price of a few tyres!! But perhaps people are recognising that the Freelander can be home repaired, home diagnosed and parts are readily available. Also, it is a work horse and eats long distances. That is the main reason I am completely rebuilding my TD4, to last another 20 years!!
 
Well just wasted another 2 hours, I don't mind doing work on one but with the price people are asking it is silly.
 
I know I am a long way from you, but if you post what you are looking for I will keep an eye out. TD4, 1.8, V6 auto or manual etc. Colour (most important!!!)

I, strangely, bought a low mileage TD4 from Stafford, train up, drive back. Not too bad.
 
I'll keep looking. Some local bargains sometimes. Got a real nice 5 door TD4 for £500 which just needed new vacuum hoses and a tank cradle. Sadly sold it on.
 
Mines just passed its MOT with no advisories. I never skimp on servicing or what ever the vehicle needs as it does not cost a lot for bits. Had it near 10 years and would hate to part with it, and will do all I can not to.

As it goes I have to say, that its been the help that this forum has given over those years that has really helped. Many thanks to those that have took the time to reply to my posts when I needed help. Very generous with both time and advice.

This is very much how I feel except it's been only seven years. If I had a major auto gearbox, IRD or turbo failure that would mean the end for me with the current vehicle, but until then I'll keep going.

I keep an eye out whats out there though as I often feel like I'd love a top spec three door facelift (black or silver). I have noticed prices seem better than they were, for the most part.
 
I paid £150 for my almost 180k 1.8!

Apart from a clutch it wasn't a bad car..

It was a motorway burner for the majority of its life, so it led a good life..

On LPG too so it did the equiv of 50mpg
