I want them to actually work like...

ebay link

so, do you think they are a good buy? or do I go for some dearer ones?

... also, they don't have the curly element I'm used to seeing. So, are they to be wired in parallel or series?

:confused face smiley:

Those are the later ones with built in resister. The early ones that dont work if one fails have the curly tails.

What ones are you looking for? I have a few curly tail ones you can have.

Jolly decent of you ( I love how us Mancs are helpful like that). If I could just pop round and give you a drink for them, I would. Unfortunately, I live in Galicia, and the postage would be a bit of a buggerance.

I'm not sure which type I want, but I certainly need some soon - I'm having to park facing down a hill so I know I can bump start it if it doesn't spark up of its own accord. I would much prefer to have the old girl parked a bit closer to my house.

If I order these "new style" ones from ebay, do I have to get rid of the resister? or can I just wire them in the same way? If it means changing stuff around, I think I'll opt for some of the curly ones I've seen on ebay for 21 quid (there or there abouts).

My cousin is over from Spain this Friday, returning on Monday if you would like the postage just from Marbella. I only have three but they are new. You see I got the wrong ones and burnt out the first plug within a few starts so they are sooty but brand new, yours with pleasure if you want to order the fourth.

The others come with the new cables as in picture and should come with wiring instructions. You still come off the resister coil on the bulkhead but in a different way.

Easiest way to tell them apart is the old type have a much bigger head, incorporating a ceramic disc under a thumb turn. The first wire goes on top of the disc with the second coming from under it and going to the top of the second and so on.

I'm a bit overwhelmed by your generosity. I'd have to recompense you, and give your cousin the p&p costs somehow.

There no good to me mate, just sat in a box in the shed and will never be used. I still have two from my first series 2a in my tool box. I got rid of that nearly 30 years ago.
My cousin is a six foot tall blond with ample extremities and man less at the moment so she may demand payment in one form or another.

Dont be daft. I'll make sure she takes them back over on Monday morning. When she gets home I'll get your address and she can send them on. You can buy me a pint of orujo de galicia when I'm next up in Lugo.

A deal. You're a gentleman. I'll message you my address, and start practicing the orujo drinking - Lugo isn't that far away, but it sounds like I'd have to get a mate to drive me back hehe

(6 foot blonde eh? Interesting... )
