I have a 1991 Defender 110 SW 200Tdi.

I am looking for a nice Dashboard to install either a single din radio or preferably a double din unit into.

I have seen the Raptor ones, and even though it looks like they are the only ones out there and i will end up using them, they do look a little industrial.

I am hoping to find someone to recover and upgrade the present standard dashboard in a nice leather, but i was wondering if anyone has come across any good alternatives?

mud stuff sell em But I prefer the raptor ones, in sating black anodized they are the canines, danglies.

Raptor isn't the only manufacturer, there is also the Mud Console, RDX Dash Console and Iron Goat to name but three others.

The Raptor does look industrial but is well made and is very flexible in what you can do to it, the others certainly have a more OE appearance but I believe they can restrict you slightly. That said, it all depends on what you want to do.

I very nearly went for the Mud Console but in the end went for a Raptor item.

Thanks for this and thanks for the Photo Litch, well it looks like I have to go down the Raptor route, the only problem here is modifying this for a Double DIN display unit! I have a really nice radio that I took out of my last car that I would like to fit into this one, and with that and the Ham Radio I may have to see about fitting two of these side by side which may be a little messy!

I keep thinking about the 2007 Dashboard, but it is just trying to get hold of one, and also get it over here! I tried to order some doors these week from eBay but all of the people selling would not ship and even would let them be collected! So I have had to order brand new doors which I am not too bothered about, but it does seem stupid that people will not ship heavy items if the buyers are willing to pay for it, Oh well, there loss!!!!

Speak to Raptor and see what suggestions they can come up with. They supply various cut-outs off the shelf, blanks or will cut out to your specification so I am sure they can come up with something that isn't too cluttered. Don't forget you can fit units in both the top & bottom panels so no need for side by side.

What temperature you got on that digital display Litch?

It's external air temperature.
Any reasonably modern car has been fitted with them for years and I had been meaning to fit one to the LR for ages but it wasn't until I fitted the new dash that I had somewhere neat to put it. 3M lead on the probe which is located just ahead of the O/S front wheel. Ignition operated, gives very accurate readings and of course isn't influenced by factors such as under bonnet temperature etc.

Best one I've seen is by a French company called ACC16

Can get very expensive though if you buy all the options!

Thanks, It does look quite nice, but again very industrial, though once Exmoor have covered it it may smooth it off a little, I have looked at there website which is fun at the best of times, never come across a site with so many adverts and pop-ups before!

I may have to stick with Raptor Engineering or bite the bullet and make one myself.

Thanks again Litch,
I have just heard back from Raptor and they do a special order double DIN unit that actually looks quite nice, still industrial, but looks to be the best option to date.

When i ordered mine(about 2 years ago) you couldn't put your stereo and your CB above each other because they will clash due to the angle.

Just check before you order.

Here is a photo that was sent to me by Raptor Engineering....

I will be mounting Ham Radio's in this vehicle but not in the dash, maybe in the cubby box or above the main windscreen, I need to install a Double DIN Radio unit in this vehicle but this may change as I have just found out that my rather expensive Alpine unit is not compatible with my new iPhone 5S, so I may change my mind again very soon as I doubt I will be keeping this unit for too much longer, especially as it has turned out to be a very expensive door stop!

There was a really nice pioneer double din touch screen head unit on offer at Halfords when I was over. (No use to us I realise!!) not sure it was IPhone 5 compatible but was about £250.

Sticking with my iPhone 4S for a bit, too many docks and stereos to change.

Hi Kes86,

Wish i had also, though some sites say that its not the phone and instead its the iOS7 thats the issue, some others blame the phone, tis a little annoying, especially as i want to spend some money on bits, might stick with a Single DIN unit for he moi can always order another dashboard later i surpose!

has anyone got a bigger picture of their dash? can't quite see them!
If I was you I'd make one yourself as they appear just to be a very expensive empty box especially that last Raptor one.

My Blaupunkt single din in the Evo still works fine with iOS 7. Well as fine as it ever did. Always plays the songs in alphabetical order from the start each time I plug it in. Really sick of A-punk by Vampire Weekend now. Have to reset it to random play before I drive off.

Anyway, I was thinking of the Boltonbits dash for mine, but finding the general junk collector shelf is more useful. However may rethink this after the recent engine work, I may now be able to hear a car radio.!

Seeing all those fancy dashboards, I just had to post a pic of my basic military one. Here you can see the standard convoy switch in the centre, with decal missing. I've added 6 toggle switches which all have built in LED tell tales.

Oh, the bare wires sticking in the banana plugs are for my phone charger.

I went for the Mudstuff one, it looks a bit more "factory". It's quite expensive for a few pieces of plastic and bent tin but it does do the job.
