Not my ad and the vehicle is nothing to do with me, but I have a search saved for galvanised 110 to monitor prices for insurance value purposes on mine. This seems a lot cheaper than they are usually advertised for considering the photos and description of work done. Are prices falling again or is this just advertised at a realistic price rather than a huge asking price that is never achieved?
 
I don't think it's particularly cheap for 110 van, not the most sort after model I wouldn't have thought.
All the same I think prices are static rather than going up., although good TD5s seems to still sell for a high price.
Not buying so haven't been keeping a close eye on things.

A tdi engine with a galv chassis and galv bulkhead I think that is a cheap price regardless of body configuration. If it was a station wagon I would have expected it to be nearer 20k. But this is why i am asking if it is just realistically priced rather than over advertised to then haggled down. With the asking price of some of the project vehicles I was looking at before Christmas when I bought my station wagon project it would not be worth doing the project if you can buy one already done for that price. My station wagon was 2k so worth the project effort but plenty were up for around 8k which by the time you have done a chassis and bulkhead you might as well buy this one!
 
Houses not selling, some stuff I look at has had prices dropping for at least the last 6 months.
Lot of people on interest only mortgages been burying their head in the sand for the last decade or so, and it is all coming home to bite their arse.
So people dont/soon wont have the money to waste on toys.

Sure you know the sum of parts, effort, labour don't necessarily make a vehicle worth that money.
As Lynall has pointed out most people haven't got the money to waste on such things at the moment.
Being realistic, in general, most Defenders are over rated and over priced for what you get, regardless of the fact we like them.

I am well aware that you never get back the cost of rebuild. But as I said I monitor the prices and have search alerts setup for these. Like this one basically the same for 17k LINK. or the original ad for the one listed at 18k LINK

or some that are to old to still be on ebay but are all adverts form the last 12 months:

Prices rose a few years ago and stayed high during lockdown, after that they fell back to more reasonable levels and seem
to have remained static since then.

For instance back in 2018 l bought a very nice TD5 XS SW for £14,000.

l had to sell it during lockdown due to money issues and a local dealer gave me £17,000 for it. l had spent some money on it so didn't really make anything.
The dealer sold it for £20,500

Since then retail prices seem to have stayed around the same, as in £15-20,000 for a good TD5 SW in XS trim
 
Prices seem to have gone back to a more sensible level
Seen a few nice looking cars on galv chassis not make their reserve on ebay
Just not the money for toys
The 15k 110 was up for 17k a few weeks ago
 
The exception appears to be original vehicles, particularly early ones. The USA market is helping to drive prices for original landies, which some sellers are targeting with higher prices.
 
What do you mean by "original vehicles" do you mean standard specification with no modifications or original as in pre-Defender (Series 1/2/3)

Original as in unmodified. However, unmodified pre-defender 90’s and 110’s are holding their value well, more so than vehicles covered in sandpaper paint and with lots of bolted on accessories.

Yes but they are also the people who spend more time cleaning it than using it.
 
The market has been overheated due to supply & demand during covid lockdown, and is only now normalising. Defenders we’re always going to be in demand as they had the following, but add the ending of production prices went stratospheric which trickles down the market to less perfect ones.

Now add the end of the ultra low interest rates, recessionary climate and the 2nd/ 3rd car becomes a real challenge for many and supply rises, but there is still the thinking it must be worth more!!

This is where the classic buyer steps in and pays the higher prices for good original vehicles or restored to original specification. I have seen this with other marques where the high values are driven by a small segment of the market, but everyone thinks theirs is worth more than it really is, that’s where the heartache starts.

Overly modified, as viewed by the buyers, will always have a niche market and unless fashionable will have comparably lower pricing to originality.

Just my tuppence worth.

l've been watching (and sometimes bidding!) on Ebay mainly for TDCi 110's

Most remain unsold as they seem to have high reserve prices. lt may be due to some dealers still advertising them at high prices, making people think theirs is worth similar.

Some have been on sale on Ebay multiple times. I think few are worth over thirty thousand unless the mileage is very low. Good TDCi Station Wagons without a reserve seem to sell for mid twenty's.

Under 50,000 miles increases the value. Dealer prices are £3-4,000 higher than private sales.
