Slope Theory

I'm sure this question has been asked by many people before me and I appologise in advance if this thread is a repeat.

Four months ago I bought a £3500 Freelander. Since then I've had £250 of work done to the clutch and have just got word from my mechanic that the transfer box is shot. Looking at £1100ish + VAT + fitting.

My friend had got a Disco 3 which, although under warranty, is back and fourth being repaired for various faults.

I am getting rid of the Freelander asap and need another 4x4.

Hence, I ask the question: Are all Land Rovers rubbish?

Nothing wrong with Freelanders - you ask Doobreydawg and Howardo - good bits of kit, let down by poor servicing and maintenance by the owners.

No doubt about it, ****orf and buy a slitty.

What other answer do you expect, Troll?

Actually, Sean's nearly right .. mine's a '96/'97 and it seems OK so far .. apart from the bits I break on it. ;)

if you wait until it gets dark the insecure Freelanderers will come on and tell you how lucky you are to have opted for such a wonderful vehicle - despite the expense

welcome to LZ

ha ha ha ha ha go buy a suzuki then you twonk !! you picked the bestest model to waste your money on, i would suggest a box of swan and a can of petrol, ill even buy you the petrol !!for the piccys of it in flames !!

I would like another Land Rover but am I right in saying that people who've had a freelander hate them and those that have them feel like they should like them (and even refuse to say so till after dark)?

If so, I'll stay away and try and a Discovery. Do less people hate these?

I should probably take my mechanics advice and get a Japanese 4X4 but I like Land Rovers and want to give them another chance.

The freelander kinda came with a house I bought (long boring story) and I probablywouldn't have bought one otherwise.

If I'm getting another Land Rover its between a Discovery and Defender - Defender because I prefer them but I've also got to do 80 miles a day so perhaps comfort wise............

A good friend of mine used to work for Jag as a car sales man and jag wouldnt accept the freelander as a part ex, I think that was one of the only cars they wouldnt accept. Now thats sayin somethin.

P.S I love my Defender200tdi, only had it 5 days so early days yet, so far it's f in ace.

Good Point.

Thats it, the scales have tipped. The Freelander is getting sold.

There are some good Land Rovers that were made after 94, IMHO!

Omitting the P38, and the Freelander, I think that everything else LR has made since 1994 then has been good if not great! The L322 Range Rover is a great car, with FAR less problems than P38s (admittedly they are newer), the Range Rover Sport is essentially a great car, only it's footballer's car image going against it, and I haven't heard of any horror stories with this car yet. The Discovery 2, 3 and 4 are also all fantastic cars, and reliability has been slowly getting better for LR over the past few years, (JD Power and other reliability surveys all support this). I think the Freelander 1 was probably Land Rover's biggest low point though. The P38 could have been a brilliant car, if only it had been built properly. I would still love to own one, despite it's many problems, if I could afford to insure it! :D Just my 2 pence.
