Thanks to the folks who advised against the buying of a 2.0Mpi. As a result, we now own a 1996 Discovery with a 300Tdi under the bonnet. The engine has been replaced at some point with a reconditioned unit from the factory. We don't know when the unit was replaced and so don't know how many miles the replacement engine has done. Is there any way of finding out when the engine was fitted i.e. if I write to Land Rover will they have any such information?
The vehicle is generally in very good all round condition, but it seems a bit sluggish at low revs. When you pull away from a standstill or are just driving slowly in traffic and accelerate, the response seems a little slow. When the rev counter reaches around 2,500 r.p.m. it seems to hit a power band and off it goes. Is there a problem with the turbo perhaps, or is this normal behaviour with a Tdi? I have not owned a deisel motor before although I drive Lorries every day of my working life. Have I just got to get used to the different characteristics? By the way, our other vehicle at the moment is a 2.5 V6 ST24!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
