Hi going to be changing the rear diff on my 98 p38 2.5 td also Coolant Radiator has a leak so its getting replaced at the same time .

Never done anything like this but keen to learn , i am not a complete novice and have some engineering background (senior heating and ventilation engineer)

So back to the Question Anything i should lookout for , be extra careful with,
Any special tools needed _ i know i will need a fan clutch tool

Or any good tips like - don't do it .

Nothing like experience

Fan clutch tool? Normally you just need a good spanner and a lump hammer, a couple of whacks and it's off unless you are unlucky. It undoes in the direction of rotation, left hand thread on the diesel. Spanner is 32 or 36mm, sorry I can never remember which.
A Nissens RAD from Island 4 x 4 is a good product and not too expensive.
If the car has aircon, you can dispense with the viscous fan and cowl if you fit my aircon fan mod.

For the rear diff .. consider 2 new axle oil seals and also replacing the ujs at the same time.

Have a look around the air bags and pipes while you are there.

I've never done it, far too heavy for me!

Thanks will look out the big spanners - got rad and diff coming , she's been converted to coils so air bags not a prob .

I've done it on my classic. There's nothing terribly difficult apart from the weight of the diff. I still managed to do it unassisted with just a trolley jack, but if I did it again I'd get a helper.

done the rear diff on mine no problems not hard is quite heavy to lift in and out I managed it and iam not on the large side, can get under car in access height, as said new seals ,callipers of abs sensor out undo hub to axle bolts and pull the lot out.

That's the radiator done , not to hard of a job (it was a 32mm for the fan)

So now THE DIFF
what gaskets and gasket sealant will i need
also has anyone got a breakdown of the task . had a look in the how to part of the forum but can't find anything .

Once again thanks for all your help
