Hello Bio,
You don't say if you have a problem at present or not.
I can only speak for my autobox in my Disco 1 which is basically the same box as yours.
I have done 122000 miles with no problems. I make sure that , while I don't do a change every year, I do have it changed every 24k as by the book. Only changed the filter once and check the oil weekly for level and cleanliness.
If your box is working ok I would leave alone but change oil as said before by me and others.
cheers
Jim A

111k and mine needs a rebuild. Put it in gear and it doesn't move for about a minute.
I've been told 100 k is about the time they die

service is the key.......... oil and filter change every 50k is a must with any auto, and a good working radiator
Are the D2 auto boxes supposedly sealed for life jobbies?
My last one was at 165,000mls when I sold her, still running perfectly as far as I can tell.
Just make sure they get regular oil changes - not what LR says. I give mine yearly changes irrespective of mileage - why wouldn't you for 20mins and about 15 worth of oil.

I agree entirely and plan to make sure the "oil rad" is clear and in good order before whatever "new" goes in the transmission.
It is strange that this 100k failure figure seems well known for whatever reason.
would say lack of maintenance, Most transmission don't have a temp gauge, and trans will get hotter quicker than the engine/coolant does.
lack of servicing 4.5 litres of fresh atf is expensive every year, and td5 diesel has more harsh torque, the same box on a petrol engine suffers less
where did I say yearly James??????????? 50K
misspelling by me, should be yearly imo
