Looking to see if there is anyone interested in swapping their (19j) diesel turbo with a 200 tdi (12L). I'm from the States, and since US customs, EPA in particular, has a stick up their ass, I need an engine that was exactly the same as what came in the car originally to import.

Not looking for extra cash, just a straight exchange. You can have a shop complete the work, or I'll fly over and help do it myself if you have room. Vehicle is currently located near London.

Thanks!

Just seems odd to me. For a start if he's importing a landy then he'll have researched and he clearly knows that it has to have its original engine so why buy one with a later engine fitted. I'm assuming he would be having the vehicle shipped to the U.S by third party courier so why would he feel the need to spend a fair bit of cash on flight tickets just to help with an engine swap? Strange

if its legit though its a good one, plus the landy may have been cheap or owned by family here then needs the original engine for import

Hi, no, not a troll. Registered here so I could talk to actual folks in the uk. Import rules in the states differ between EPA and NHTSA, the engine only has to be 21 years old, but the car has to be 25 years old... However the engine has to be original, so I don't know why they say 21 vs 25. I called to check, being that the 200tdi is over 21, but they gave me a hard time, even though the 200tdi is more efficient, better emissions, etc. whatever. If the VIN indicates 19j, the car needs to have a 19j engine apparently. If I have to pass on the car I will, but it's a 1989, coming up on its 25 year registration anniversary. I plan on flying over anyway to look at a few others and complete the transaction regardless.

Just trying to figure things out. If you are interested for real, pm and I can give you a call.

Thanks!

Sad to say the EPA and DOT have been tightening up on this insanity of late - down to looking at replaceable items like door hinges and bonnets.

Thankfully my 110 was essentially box stock when i found it in Canada and I didn't have to go through this level of insanity. Drove up to Cusoms at Calais, Maine, and 35 minutes later I was on my way.

When i eventually put the 200TDI in mine that will put paid to it leaving the country for me - i donot need to get into a hassle with some Customs jackass and spend years getting my own truck back.

I've been talking to pete980 about doing a swap. Just waiting to hear back on some things before i start to make plans. Any others interested? A little closer to London perhaps?

Thanks everyone!

Ok, probably be my last post for a while, but if anyone is interested in a 200 TDI full swap, let me know. I'm having a shop in Kent swap the motor with an older 19j motor they had at the shop. It's gonna cost me, but ended up being much easier logistically. I've got everything you need to do the swap, engine, mounts, bell housing, radiator, intercooler, etc, and it's all in very good condition.

Have a good one! and thanks for the help.
