Thats what i'm planning on fitting into my lines. Already got one that was supplied with my twin tank kit but that has gone on the diesel line from the start tank, plan to put one in the main tank line, if nothing else it gives you a window to see what is happening?
yep as an early warning filter it cant do any harm

200 & 300tdi while being direct injection still have glow plugs (most direct injection engines do not) which will make them less susceptible to ring gumming but I would still not want to use 100% veg oil.

The ring gumming appears to take a long time to become a problem so might not show any signs after a year of veg use. Adding any petrol will reduce the ignition temperature of the veg oil so should negate the problem but it dose reduce the power and mpg a fair bit.

If I couldn’t get diesel right now I wouldn’t worry about using veg for a month or two especially with the warm weather.

A good idea for those plastic filters is to connect one in parallel with the normal filter with a couple of “T” pieces and a little ball valve so that if the standard filter blocks you can just open the valve and use the plastic filter until you get the chance to replace the original filter.

Why? Its not like yer injun just stops...........you get plenty of warning and changing the filter only takes a few minutes :confused:

I have run veg mine regularly over the last year. I have not had any issues with the filter but I did clean out the sedementor a couple of months back and it was catching all the crap from tank which is what it is there for.

Asa for running, I found the engine was smoother and more powerful plus a lot quieter. As for economy it was a little better than with pure diesel.

Cold starting wasn't a problem until the weather turned colder which caused the engine to stutter when cold. I changed the mix then from 80/20 to a 50/50 and when really cold I went straight diesel.

With diesel now £1:47 a litre here in the south, buying veg oil at £1:00 a litre means you can easily afford the odd lift pump now and again along with a filter. I haven't had any gummed up filters either.

Everyone has an opinion on the running of veg oil. Basically I took my advice from people who walked the walk. Too many inexperienced experts around lol.

Ultimately the choice is yours but for me I understand that the diesel engine was originally designed to run on peanut oil so it could help revolutionise the development of the third world. The fuel we call diesel was refined and named after the engine was built. The nick name 'oil burner' is more accurate than a diesel engine, then again a diesel engine should be called that due to the name of the inventor not the fuel we use today.

petrol doesnt affect the mpg that much that you notice it, to be fair my disco has the same aerodynamics as a house brick. i do find that adding 2 stroke oil makes it run much smoother though.

i binned my sedimenter and fitted one of those in-line filters before the main one.

hornet, you right about all the inexperienced experts out there lol.

:multiply: and use cooking oil

How much two stroke oil per, say, 20 litres of oil. I haven't heard of adding 2 stroke.

Portsmouth eh, not too far away for a gathering at some point in Salisbury soon.......

not too sure about 20 ltrs, but i put about 400ml to a full tank. after 2 tanks you will notice a hell of a difference in noise and smooth running also a little power increase. It adds the lubrication to the injector pump that modern diesel doesn't have in it any more (not eco friendly enough). If your going to use it, grab the low ash mineral oil, its about £3.50 from tesco for 750ml.

I need to man up and get my clutch done before i can think about Salisbury lol. when you thinking about going?

Hi,
I would like to try the veg oil route, mines a p reg 300tdi auto disco, am i right in thinking i can just put it(50/50with diesel) in and that's it no adjustments or anything like that?

Also has anyone used millers additive as sold in halfords(claims and user reviews on halfords site seem good)

was thinking of decat as well , is it an easy job for diy? worth doing?
Thanks

yes to all apart from the millers as i have not tried it, i would certainly test it with veg in a jar first as some of the adatives don't like veg/bio

decat could be a problem with the new mot, we will have to see how that one pans out and yes i know its not a real cat as its a diesel but.

Interesting read, had a costco card for ages, and we buy massive amounts of lucas/cav type fuel filters at work...seems I'd be daft for not giving it a go :D

Will definitely have a go with the two stroke then. As for Salisbury I recon on the end of the month. So that gives enough time for all concerned to prepare. Sounds like about six of us so far then. I will pencil in the 29th of April and confirm over the weekend.

I will send pms nearer the time if that's ok.
