have yu calibrated both? Lidls are manuf in Germany and are more than adequate for what the op requires.

Been using my for more than 20 years and its a pup compared to my Moore and Wright non digital one.
Good tools are always more expensive.
I agree that some cheaper stuff has come on in leaps I have one which cost about £7 but I use it only to check a bolt or a dowel saves getting my decent ones dirty.
I check them with the distance peices from my 0 to 100 mm mike.

According to the rebuild manual got to measure the width of a whole bunch of grooves on this and that.

I did one last year and it involves measuring some shims then you could do with a DTI to check the shaft end float, then you calculate which shim thickness is needed to give the pre load.
Get hold of a luggage weight scale to check the force needed to turn the shafts, they are pretty cheap but try to check it with an old fashioned weight to give you confidence.

Verniers are often nicknamed 'Very Nears', there is also a difference between 'resolution' and 'accuracy', they are also not good for measuring smaller internal diameters due to the flat surfaces on the internal jaws . Micrometers are a lot more accurate (and expensive, and you need various sizes) so its a bit of a balancing act. If you need to measure grooves then feeler gauges can prove useful.
