as above would anyone be good enough to go out of their way for me to veiw a rr classic and give me their opinion on its condition.
its advertised with no picture and im reluctant to drive 190 miles to find its a dog and the seller is full of crap.

from what i can gather hes a bit of a wheeler dealer and ive got a feeling its been off the road at least a few years.

ive asked for pictures but he seems in no rush.

thanks in advance

I'd maybe give it a miss. Ask for photos of the sills and boot.

If you do that he'll know that you know yer stuff.

i wish i could but its a softdash with a brooklands body kit with only 64 thousand on the clock with service history to back it up.

he assures me it will fly an mot and has never been welded.

I'm afraid that doesn't mean much - some of the main rot will be obscured and not necessarily picked up by an MOT and some places wouldn't necessarily be an MOT failure.

You really must see the motor and have a good prod and poke around, you also need to check there are no nasty surprises like head gasket failure, leaking cooling system, slow air suspension, ABS/TC warning light etc etc. There is a lot to be wary of. As they say - if something sounds too good to be true....

Then again, 64k is not a lot at all and it could well be mint. If the price is right I think I would make a day trip of it - nothing ventured and all that! and really 190 miles is not that far, 3 hours give or take, so leave early say 8ish, get there between 11 and 12, hour to hour and a half looking at motor drive back ; be home for tea then go to pub - no problem!

Never been welded to me means "probably needs some now though". I've come across a lot of people who boast "never been welded" but inspecting the chassis with a screw driver handle, you can normally find one or two spots where it has taken hold.

Fly through an MOT pretty much means nothing. This guy could MOT it and sell it for more, if that was the case. A Soft dash with new full MOT could fetch good numbers. AS said: nothing ventured nothing gained. Pack a lunch and drive up and make a day of it.

yes it looks like im going have to bite the bullet and make the trip

Okay mate. Best of luck. All you can do is sound the guy out. Check those sills!!!

Let us know how you get on.

well i bought it, it,s a bit rough round the edges, the sills and rear x member wont last much longer but they are solid enough for mot, ran and drove lovely till the last 3/4 of a mile from home, i heard a screeching noise followed by a rumbling and vibration through the front end, i pull over to investigate to be greeted to the smell of burning ep diff oil and to find the front diff has given up, so i crawled the rest of the way home,
on the upside i kicked him in the knackers and got it for 800 less than he wanted.

Looks nice! I always liked that colour for some bizarre reason :)

Now to get stuck in. I found my RR is a great project and I got mine for a reasonable price too. See you in the Range Rover Classic threads!
