Not realy the same thing. The ones I'm looking for don't grip the corners of the nut rather than the edges as per normal. In the US they are called Metrinch. They fit imperial and metric. But more importantly they fit rounded off bolts.

If enough room around the nut then use a Irwin nut remover socket. They come in sets of must used sizes.
Used it to successfully on a rounded off caliper bolt. Good set for rusty landys

Not being picky nose job here while pushing back thick rimmed broken glasses with one covered with xelasterplast and having sweaty palms. If the pictures are correct are you not inviting the tools to become rounded by mere or less contact area over short period of heavy use. Please feel free to slap this messenger if I'm wrong on all counts.

Don't know about spanners, but the best thing I have found for rounded off bolts are Irwins:

:)

Just bought a set these.

The part of the spanner or socket that contacts the nut sits on the middle of the flat and does not reach the corners so can round them off.

Could be wrong, but I think @saxavordian was referring to the part of the SPANNER that contacts the nut wearing down rather rapidly - not the nut itself.

Irwin sockets for me I’ve got couple sets in my van they saved me countless times even with heat n ther still going strong

You used to be able to get Metrinch stuff in the UK but a quick Google reveals that in most cases it says 'discontinued' from UK suppliers. I nearly bought one of their socket sets a few years ago. They all seem to come from Australia or the US now, with shipping costs and customs charges to match.

I have a 13mm metrinch socket somewhere, it did the job in removing a slightly rounded off nut years ago. Since moving to hex sockets/spanners a few years ago, I haven't had any problems with stuck nuts.

You lot must be lucky, I have no problem on getting a good grip on a bolt/ Nut but usually it’s for nothing as the bolt snaps, much quicker to use the cutting disc in the first place and replace the bolt,
