I’m looking to replace all the air springs on my p38.

BritPart might be £170’ish for 4 and Dunlop about £240 for a set of 4.

But the Arnotts just seem crazy money.... even for the Gen 2’s let alone the Gen 3’s.

I don’t mind paying more for better, and if the p38 was still a £40-60k vehicle then the Arnott springs wouldn’t be priced all that wrong. But when an average p38 costs about £2.5k they are just priced wrong. I struggle to believe they can sell any Gen 3 springs for what the retail price is for them.

Anyone found any good deals on the Arnott springs or managed to run a group buy?

The Gen 2’s should ride better than the Dunlop’s. I’d happily pay £280-300 for a set of 4. The Gen 3’s move the game on. But I seriously can’t see them really being worth more than £100-110 a corner.

I found a set of Gen II's on promo from P38 Spares for about £285. Never seen any close to that price in the 8 years since. Just put my project car on Dunlops.
 
FWIW i have arnott Gen II's bought them back when they had a lifetine warranty.

They do ride a little stiffer than than the dunlops. you pays your money etc etc
 
Sorry mate. I meant to contact Arnott and see if they'd do a deal for an enthusiast club (i.e. Landyzone) but I just haven't had a chance.

Not sure I'd go gen ii but gen iii would be interesting at 100 a corner. At the moment the price is cloud cuckoo land.

That might be your shocks, I have one on new Dunlops and one on Gen II's, the Gen ii's are more supple.

I've contacted Arnott using their web-form pointing out all 4 Dunlop bags can be had for £200 and asking if they could do us a deal if I organise a group buy. If they respond I'll need expressions of interest. But I'm not ordering without the cash up front. Had issues before on that front for way less than we're looking at here!
 
I put gen 2s on years ago I seem to recall the ride being more compliant now I know nowt else. I honestly wouldn't think any would be an improvement over any other and not worth stressing about. ( Buy the dunlops)
Mine has a built in device that tells me I'm cornering sharper...that bloody tray is always sliding off.
 
Dunlops are fine...
Think I got mine with lifetime warranty back some years ago...p38 spares.

Arnott Gen 3’s are a game changer. Two big design differences. The biggest is they are softer at extended ride height and stiffer at low motorway height. The original OEM and all pattern ones work in the reverse of this. Being soft for high speed and stiff for off road.

The Gen 3’s are also 2” longer. So if you combine them with longer shocks will give noticeable more flex off road.

I'd love to test side by side and see. Still, let's see what they respond with. I won't go above £100 a corner for gen III, given they're currently £250 a corner that's quite a discount. Mind you, I'll be waxing lyrical ever after on here if they're as good as the hype.

Need to extend your height sensor arms too if you're going to fit longer shocks.

Plus the fact that if you don't modify your sensor arms you will knacker the sensors at full articulation.
 
I've been after a set of Gen IIIs for a couple of months now, but the price is, as you say, off putting.

£100 a corner seems about right, I'd be in for a set at that price.
 
Will wiat and see if @Grrrrrr has any luck. I actually sent a similar email to p38spares, but no reply as of yet. But a group buy to demonstrate interest and demand at a sensible price point would I assume be a good thing for Arnott. And I'm positive they'd still be making money on each unit.

I seriously doubt you'd see much benefit. I doubt a big beam axle beast will suddenly transform into a disco 3. I reckon new tyres would make much more difference .

The big plus for Gen II's is the longer life expectancy. Dunlops are knackered after about 80K miles or 8 years which is the recommended replacement time. After 8 years the Gen ii's on my P38 still look like new, and they came with a lifetime warranty.
Gen III's are a total waste of time IMO unless you are into serious off roading where the greater articulation may be what you want. Whilst the air displacement characteristics may be different, it is not possible to alter the fact that at extended height the air pressure in the bag is higher and thus thus the initial spring rate must be harder with the opposite applying at motorway height. Good marketing IMO.

We've done this one before and even shown spring rates. The Gen 3's are softer when extended. And firmer when lowered. If you don't understand the physics on how this is achieved, there is no need to keep claiming the opposite, just accept it. Not trying to be funny about it, as I know you have a lot of knowledge, but keeping on repeating incorrect information doesn't really help anyone.

If you blow up a tyre to 20 psi it's soft, blow it up to 80 psi it's hard, basic physics, the displacement will be different but you cannot alter the fact that more pressure equals a harder starting point, the pressure is there, it has nowhere to go..
You can achieve a similar effect with adjustable dampers.

Everything from P38 spares are at rip off prices i don't expect you to get any joy there.
