Vent seals.jpg Having a bad run, Been preparing a 110 for a Pyrenean trip in a couple of weeks and done tons of maintenance. Will post the mods and improvements but have replaced all hoses as the old 1996 ones were looking rough, choose Bearmach - got back on Sunday from a 500 mile trip and the new bleed valve is leaking - great old one didn't.
Just got home today and the new OEM via Britpart vent seals which were again put on to stop leaks have decided to fall off in the heat of the sun - tape still bonded to vents but failure between seal and tape.
I am a great believer in preventative maintenance but is really anoys me that you end up seemingly to go backwards with 'NEW' parts - and it is not just Britpart!!!!!!
Rant complete - see what else falls off this afternoon.

I use superglue on my vent seals, but I know what you mean, my freelander is on its 4th starter motor in 80,000 miles.

Sorry to OEM - just found out they were not OEM depite what was on the paddocks web site - they had stated OEM which was why I purchased them and guess what - they are not - a bit naughty

I hate thinking I’ve got oem on the way and I unpack a blue box. I don’t really fit many new parts though, more fit shapes of steel

I stopped using paddocks. Just got so brasses off not getting what was in the picture just to be given the stock photo BS.
And don’t get me started on the fact they don’t even stock half of the products for sale. They just get britfart to post them direct.
Like I say. Walked away.

As a side issue, bought the Bleed Hose through LR Direct - First time I have had a parts Issue with them as normally buy OEM, Still waiting for a resolution, not great as a relatively cheap part and effectively have a Landy off the road while they are arguing with Bearmach - always forget about the after service when ordering parts!!!!

I fitted a water pump that lasted 15 miles! I have replaced with an OEM one. Three times the price but hopefully it will last more than 45 miles :)

Not on my ones as the leaky bleed valve is not fitted as such as in middle of a hose that is fitted and the seals fell to bits from the inside - not immune to the odd mistake but not on these - OEM or bust!!!

For parts I can vouch for www.brit-car.co.uk. You can choose from genuine, oem or pattern when you buy. Very useful. My rule is generally; if it’s oily it is genuine or it moves it is oem, everything else is pattern.

the problem is, you don't know what you're getting. sometimes, the cheap part is identical to the OEM/Land Rover part, sometimes its not.
Sometimes it really doesn't matter, sometimes it does.
if your cheap windscreen washer jet points at a slightly different angle, who cares so long as it works. if your timing chain fails after 20 miles and breaks your engine, its a wee bit more frustrating
