Hello folks,
As the heading states, I know the discovery 2 was never available with front air suspension, but has anyone ever tried their hands or seen anyone who's retrofitted the front with air suspension?
Problem with mine is, the front springs appear to have sagged over time to the point where I have the front axles touching the bump stops all the time coming off speed ramps.
Rear air suspension works just fine, and addition to the self leveling advantages it provides with loading, it also makes the rear seats the most comfortable in the vehicle over all road surfaces.
If possible, I would like to extend that air ride quality to the front as well with a manual inflation system instead of having to replace my aged coils. I am pretty conversant with the disco's rear air ride system and have not had any problems maintaining it over the years, so a standard system in the front wouldn't be much of a problem.

I can't help sorry, but it does make a change to see somebody who's thinking of installing additional air suspension instead of screaming that it's the work of the devil and should be ripped off and buried in a deep hole at the earliest opportunity.

Don't some of the Rangie variants use air on the front?

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean by that....almost everyone else I know out here changed out the disco's excellent rear air ride system for steel coil springs. Personally, I don't think the steel sprung ones can compare to the the ones with air ride when it comes to rear seat ride quality. Aside the newer generation, I know the P38 range rover as well as some of the late model classics have 4 wheel air suspension. Technically, considering the P38 RR and the disco 2 have similar suspension geometry, I could very easily stick the front air bags off a P38 there and have them inflated manually. The problem I'm having has to do with the shock absorber mounts. The disco 2 has the coil over shock system that sorts of complicates the whole thing.

I remember reading something a few years back now (another forum I think) RE retrofitting air on the front axle, whether or not it actually took place or not I cannot comment.

Afterall, anything (more of less) is possible providing you have enough £££££.

All I will ask though, is it really worth it......?

Hmmmmm, is anything ever worth it with these vehicles?
Been looking at the front shock mounts on the P38 range rover and I think I can fabricate similar mounts that would bolt in place of the disco's cone shock mounts.
Still have to figure out a way of mounting the bottom end of the shock on the axle.
