silverdale is good site but with AT's i wouldnt bother. I get stuck regular on cooper stt muds on 265's. The guys running 285+ insa turbo get around the best. the regular recoveries are what make it interesting though whether your stuck/recovering or just watching :D

the council have been wanting to close it down for ages, and nearly did last year. Im glad its still opening, just a pity they have closed off the apprach road at both ends with steel barriers under a perm TRO, as the road which surrounds the site is a green lane. They reckoned they had people dumping stolen vehicles there regular but ive never seen any evidence of it. Like mentioned above the site gets no maintenance whatsoever and part of the reason is that the whole area has tree preservation orders on it so they cant get rid of some of the trees no matter how battered they are. The guys who run event dont care much anyway, they dont own the land.

Interesting read there mike

I've not been for a while but shame to hear about the surrounding lane, that was a very handy entrance for me coming from the other way.

Once stopped at the start of the lane outside a guys house who had put a small tree across the lane

He came out and apologised for the blockage but he said there was lots of fly tipping and he was trying to stop people getting on the lane

Said he had no problems with the 4x4s though and moved the tree to let me through

Looks like the council finally decided to stop it. Shame really cos it was a handy access route but hey ho.

Also jase regards the fires, yeah I never really worked out what was going on with all that other half of the forest all burnt looking couldn't decide why it was like that.

Never saw it on fire but it always looked recent!

I may be talking crap but when I was a kid there was an urban myth that it was an underground fire from the coal mine and was burning the Pete sub soil and had been burning for years? And couldn't be put out

Years ago I got all the way to the top at silverdale in a standard disco running road tyres.

Now, its pretty much impossible to get anywhere up there with no modifications.

Heres my new disco at Silverdale on the 29.12.13

Its the only picture I took because I couldnt be arsed to get out of my truck!

I'll be going this month, with a few mates.... A lot of damage can be done at silverdale if you're not careful and its best to tackle it with a few others who can pull you out if need be!

Me and my brother will be there in our light blue 3 door disco, and our mate will be there with us in his 5 door bobtail light blue disco :)

Just goT back from here. Brilliant site. Very eventful day for our group. Ended up drawing my friends lightweight around for a good part of the day and one of the defenders in the group had a little fall on to its side. No one hurt tho so all was good. Next time I go, I will have some much needed bigger tyres. Sorry that I didn't see anyone. It was very busy there today.

I didnt take many pictures

I spotted the Lightweight once up on the top while we were winching a 90 back up from down the back

Theres so much up there, you can go all day and not see many people, even on a busy day!

our winch isolator has died, need a better one

I got a few pics
