The V6 box is a different to the TD4. I suspect it's has the same dimensions but that's where the similarly ends. The V6 has twin outlets instead of the single outlet of the TD4.
Internally the V6 has a complex set of baffles designed to make the engine quiet.
I modified mine to ease back pressure, the down side to this is noise. It's not to bad, nowhere near as loud as my ZS180's straight through system but it's not quiet now ether.
I would guess that the small rear box would be noisier then my current set up, this would stop me getting one.
Obviously on the TD4, the turbo removes most of the sound energy so by the time the sound has reached the tail pipe, there is little energy left to make much noise.

My td4 has twin outlets?? so does Epicusers from the pics

Is the fitment to the mid section the same though and is the mid section the same? That's all that really matters for cross compatibility really

The centre section is a different shape, but I suspect the where the back box meets the centre section could well be the same. I've also seen some Td4's with twin outlets, I assumed they had been fitted as replacements as opposed to factory fitment.
If this is the case, then ether box will fit TD4 or V6 and maybe even the L series? The 1.8 has a different pipe diameter though.

Maybe someone could check the part number on there box?

Interesting. I'm going to see if my V6 still has the part number on it. It's possible that the factory fitted what they had to the TD4. I've seen single and twin outlets on the TD4 but only ever seen twin outlets on the V6.
 
I assume the potential air flow on the v6 is greater than the td4. The v6 has 3 cats. 1 in the middle and 2 at the front, 1 for each bank of 3 cylinders.

Peeps have said in the past LR used the larger v6 bear barrel on the td4 when they ran out of the smaller one. It was discussed a while ago on another fred.
 
Suppose I now need to know if the connection to the mid pipe is the same... Although the speculation that LR simply used whatever box they had would suggest that the connection is the same, the middle section is the same, its just the downpipes from the manifolds which are different...

So by the looks of that, every box has the same slip joint fitting bar the K16 from 1A000001

If thats the case, yes the box will be interchangable for all models bar that one :D

Images of how poor the ground clearance is on the 2004-2006 MK1 Freelander TD4 'Sport' (using the standard backbox),and why I think Simon's (SES88) custom compact back boxes are a good idea, for those undecided.

Vehicle ground clearance dimensions:
Approx 10 inches from sill to floor at center of car (nb: center prop-shaft is lower than floor of car).
Approx 6.5 inch at rear of vehicle from bottom of factory back box to floor (too little).

Factory TD4 exhaust dimension.
Approx 8.25 inch factory back box height (too tall).

So fitting a compact back box would certainly gain valuable ground clearance if going off-road.

I remember when mine was that low.

I have an extra 100mm now more than the Sport, with the lift kit and tyres combined, but the rear box is still too low and far back.

I need steps to get in mine :D
 
I find the tow bar hits the ground long before the rear box does :(
