I have had it twice now. Different locations.

First time the message came up months ago, I sat in the car on the forecourt read up and found the remote was out of sync with the car's alarm. Locked while pressing the lock button, unlocked with remote, all ok. Weird.

Second time was today, same issue, more serious though. I needed to put the emergency code in to stop the message, then I had to re-sync the remote again. Flippin weird.

Somebody I have spoken to said the car can disable the engine if it thinks it is under attack or being scanned by RFI, it can be a common issue for several makes of car around this age, especially the more technology loaded on them.

What I feel is strange is that this only happens to me at Shell stations, or at least the two times it happened have been Shell stations. Avoiding them like the plague now. Do they emit a lot of interference in comparison to other stations? Anybody else had this?

OR, am I going mad? Been on the mead this evening, so lucky I can still type let alone spell........... :)

Cheers

shell are out to get you ! maybe they think if they disable your motor you will fill it up to the top before trying to drive off ?

Have a look at this thread. http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f10/non-start-lessons-learnt-154868.html
Dean was stuck in Coalville after spurious radio signals interfered with the BECM on his DSE. Cost him a fortune in the end, just because he got too close to a radio mast putting out strong signals. The frequency of the remote key fob and receiver is the same as most non-licensed PMR comms, so will cause interference to your remote receiver.
I changed mine, cost was about £160 from Island 4x4, easy job, 10 minutes. Better than getting stuck somewhere and having the costs Dean had.
One member who got the same problem in the fuel station reported calling RAC who towed him 100 yards along the road and the car started. RAC man reckoned it occurred regularly at this particular garage.

Had it happen to sister inlaws p38 in shell in salisbury put fob right by receiver lock un lock and start up 2nd time pushed off forcourt, then start didnt happen a 3rd time as we just take keys out and dont lock it,Shell salisbury roof is full of airels.

happens at a lot of sites on the wirral, tesco bromborough, matalan bromborough and ive heard at asda queensferry.aa/rac called out daily, tow vehicles away form stores then they start.they put it down to wi-fi interference

It happens to me at the in laws house i always get a 'disabled engine'....Simple fix is manual open/close/open whilst syncing (holding the button) then stick the key in the ignition, the light on the fob flashes and opens the rest of the doors and 'engine disabled' message goes away....or am I solving another problem?! haha

Can this happen to disco 300 tdi's? I had a similar problem while at a Tesco garage and also while at a Jet garage the other day. Engine wouldn't even try to start. Had to keep locking and unlocking the car with the key fob.

My mate had this problem at a bp last night
Phoned me out, i remembered this thread so we towed it out of the forcourt .plulled over about 200 yards down the road and tryed it again
Doors unlocked with remote now! stuck key in, battery was too flat to start??? Put jump leads on fired up straight away
Now not sure if this was a battery problem or somthing at the garage but it woludnt even try to turn over before we moved and the remote wasent working before eather
