I'm talking 19j here! 85 Hp not too much for running gear to handle. Mine is just finished and runs a treat!! Just wondering how many others have tried this brill conversion!?

There's been a few topics on it but people normally go with 200tdi as its easy to do and a great engine

How easy is it to do? Does anything need to be welded?

Got any pictures? As I was thinking of this myself.

yep, just done it but not on the road yet. Had to weld a new mount on the rhs chassis as the one for the petrol engine fouled the injector pump

Do you happen to know if the injector pump on the 19j is the same position as the 15j(2.5 NA)?
Cos mine has a defender 2.5na at the moment and that would make the conversion even easier.

My truck is about to go on the road in a week when exhaust and some small wiring is done. But we had to weld the rhs engine mount and make a bracket for the series mount that side to fit in.
The 15j and 19j are essentially the same engine so if you have a NA in there already should pop right in with minor work to exhaust and air hose I think.

My conversion was from a loud noisy Perkins tractor engine- the most noise now is from a happy whistling turbo!

With regard tHe 200tdi- either remove the turbo (only gives you 60 odd horse power but a reliable turnkey starting engine) or keep turbo on and eat you drive train in a few years (mates overdrive went in 2 years and another mates gearbox is getting to the replacement point)

I find the power and delivery of that power great for the series- I will get pics up in feb after its first test offroading!!

Love to see how others are getting on with this awesome conversion.

12j is the n/a landrover lump, 15j is the sherpa lump.
19j should drop straight into yours with a bit of messing about with pipework for turbos and exhausts.

when i did mine in the late 90's i used a nearside engine mount inverted and welded to the off side chassis rail, after chopping off the original mount. the angle worked out close enough to drop straight on, using the long offside engine mount on the engine side.

Seems to be a good match for the gearbox and brakes, but RR diffs would help as I always reach for fifth, have a pair ready to fit, next project!
A cheap engine which has a bad name but mine have gone on for ever, touch wood.
Thinking of putting an inter cooler on, have one ready to fit, project after the diffs, when I've fitted the rear seats....and the dog guard, oh and replaced the rear window runners, and rewired the lights... Oh and......and....

Mr Hooke does this mean yours is al workign now then? Oh and am i the mate who ate the overdrive? ha ha. I think min was just a poorly example as its had worn teeth for a good while before it broke.

Yay the baron! Yeah your overdrive lol. Think towing is especially bad for series drive trains when mated to the tdi.

Mate that td whistles like a bird and flies like one too! Can't wait to offroad her in feb:) what do you think about Spring over axle conversion? Be hench then with 35's!!

Ha Ha it would probably be pretty unstable. saying that you dont exactly have many roads down your way you can go very fast on. If you need hoses made up give me a shout as i get a discount at a few places that make braided lines etc. i guess you would need some steering arm changes too but nothing too major. Why not just get some articulating shackes like Dunc has? Make up a kit like the old gone too far one.
