Sonim Quest Land Rover S1 Phone

I know this has been discussed before, but a while ago. Surely somebody must have got one by now!

I'd like to know if it is any good and especially if the GPS will give / store coordinates when you are not on a road.

Thanks

looks **** to me, i had a rubber nokia one years ago when they claimed they dint brake ! nocked it off the kitchen table and the screan fell out , dint work after that , so i lost all faith in "unbreakable " phones

Is there not a 3 year guarantee though? apparantly it doesn't matter what you do to it, if you break it they will sort it out. Was thinking about getting one when my contract runs out and i'm due for an upgrade.

indestructable phone does exist old nokia 3310s, drove over my last one with a 4x4 Case 995 with a loader and a junkari PTO wood chipper on. cracked phones case but still worked :D

OK... so my thoughts are dont do it. I bought a Sonim XP3 Quest (which is the same as the Landrover phone) but it was SIM free and only £245. The GPS was excellent and the inbuilt software worked will in the UK. Web browsing was by Java rather than the normal applications but couple of problems. I could never get the MMS to work and have now been told it will not and the screen developed a fault withing a week (about 7 dead pixels). The supplier (B4U Direct) have advised I will have to wait up to 51 days for a replacement but I have been dealing with Sonim direct. They are going to swap the phone directly for me - but its been a week of emails so far with no progress. The phone has a long battery life and is pretty chunky... this is a business expense but if it was my own money I would certiainly think long and hard before parting with a SIM free model and would hat to get a landrover badged one and be tied into Orange.

:Dthat was my favorite phone mate, it lived in the dash of me telle handler when i worked fer west mids demolition, it was trashed weekly , then the case replaced and it looked new again , i had it fer years ,

I've recently replaced my 3310 with a Land Rover S1! I dropped my 9 year old 3310 in some water at work which finished it off, and seeing as Ive lost my last 2 phones like that I thought I'd spend a bit more on a phone and get the LR one.

I got the unlocked sim free version, so it's not branded or locked to Orange and have no problems with it. Has a 3 year no questions asked warrenty. It's been tested in many pints of beer and under a few cars, no problems. Oh, and I took it in the swimming pool yesterday.

put the 3310 on a radiator for a few days it will work again, mine did in similar circumstances :D

Na this one was well and truely gone. I went swimming with it in my pocket about 7 years previous to this incident and it dried out after that, but it wasn't coming back this time.

i dropped my n95 8gb in the dogs bowl of water friday, the screen no longer works, so might go for one of these

i have the landrover phone and am reasonably pleased with it , it is tough and takes the rough and tumble in your pocket and being dropped etc at work ,
it's down to personal choice at the end of the day , i find it slow on the web and it seems to eat battery power if you use the gps function but its tough and i only have to charge it once a fortnight .
the only downside that really niggles me is that it doesn't do multimedia messages so if you take a picture you can't send it on ...but i knew that before i bought it .

i did hear a rumour that in 6 months time they are bringing out a G4 version with even more functions like altimeter and barometer etc dunno if it's true though .

Well this version has an altimeter on the Java section. If you use the GPS and just get the details.

Still got to get mine sorted out, the battery life isn't as good as it should be and have to charge it every few days, but the customer support is excellent, I just havn't got around to it!

Hi, first post on here so be gentle with me.lol.
I have a Land Rover fone. Now, lets just imagine that I'm a complete idiot and cant work out how to set up the GPS.
How would I go about getting the fone out of the box and getting the GPS to work?
I (would) need a VERY BASIC step by step guide or it just wouldn't work.
How would I get it to workng order?
Not that I need help of course but someone thicker than me might need to know.

Interesting - I bought a Sonim XP3 Quest about 6 weeks ago. It had dead pixels from new so B4U Direct and Sonim have agreed to replace it but now due to "internal difficulties" Sonim tell me there are all out of stock and production is on hold... time for a refund methinks!

the gps "amaze" is embedded in the java section you need to unlock this forst

go into applications folder and click java
press left soft key options
select embedded applications on the menu
this will ask if you want you unembed applications
click on amaze
follow the onscreen instructions

once amaze is unembedded you need to go into tools
clcik on gps and switch to on
go back to applications java amaze and switch on

you're all set

Cheers for that. Now my problem is it keeps sayin "communication error" after it asks if it can go online.
Any ideas?

Just picked up a series 1 one for free with £155 cash back for £13 a month on a 24 month contract.

Its nice but its no Nokia but if you just want a phone with IP-67 classification(which is reserved for the most durable of phones) its spot on, comes with 2 Gb storage and 1500 hrs stand by lol

ps 3-year unconditional guarantee for good measure...
