No they moved up there of their own free will.
Yep Guinness is a stout, I can't stand the urine that is lager and finding a publican that knows how to look after proper beers is rare these days, plus finding a decent pub in Essex is almost impossible these days.
Mind you I did find a stout that was brood in Yorkshire that equalled Guinness it was Samual Smiths Extra Stout, on a hot day in Scarborough (probably the only one in the year).

I used to travel a lot and rarely had a decent pint darn souf. We are lucky up here that there are plenty of good pubs and people who know how to look after proper beer and I don't include the virgins water they call lager.

That certainly used to be true, although the Boddingtons they make these days isn't far off lager. Fortunately there are loads of micro-breweries down here these days with some very good beers if you know which pubs stock them. I travel a fair amount and am slowly forming a safe haven list.
