yes mate if its clicking it works.i can,t help you with the re-sync business(not electronically minded)but if i were you i,d go back to what irish rover said, crack the union at the fip whilst your lovely wife turns the engine over, that will confirm whether theres any fuel coming through.if no fuel then you have to start looking at the relay 12 which controls the fuel pump(swap it for another one)theres a simple test somewhere which proves that your fuel pump is working and delivering the right amount of fuel, wammers will be along in a bit he might be able to help you out.once you know your fuel is running ok i,d take each plug out and run a current through it-your plugs might be a year old but they could all be knackered.you also need to check if your plugs are getting 12v from the relay.there you go that should keep you busy for a while ,let us know how you get on.cheers

I understand the test for checking for fuel delivery, but I have just swapped out for a brand new pump and have already done 200 miles in it...
Do glow plugs fail instantly? I have had no issues with starting from cold - no double or triple warms ups etc, I know what the symptoms are for dodgy glowplugs as i have already changed them out myself...

But I will still go through the checks listed, especially checking fip bleed, relay 12 etc. Just waiting for may battery to charge overnight...
will post update.

BTW the bleed nut is the one next to the clear fuel pipe right? and also the stop valve is it visible without removing the intake manifold?

yes mate the bleed nipple is at the fip end of the clear tube, the stop solenoid can be seen but is a little awkward to get at without taking manifold off.

great thanks for the replies!

Just spoken to a mobile LR mech, he said it could be that i used a different key, ( which I did,- but still cant get my head around because it had been used all day previously) and the out of sync could have happened as the codes could have been corrupted...?

He also he mentioned that if the glowplug and injection light are shown,it DOES NOT always mean that a resync might not be needed, apparently a out of sync can be the case even if the both lights are on the dash just before cranking. IRISHROVER - Please confirm.

One other thing he said to check was the fuel inertia switch...where the hell is this?

just read about this re sync thing on ebay, does it work or can i borrow one/ hire one?

I don't think you can as they set themselves to the vin number of the car - they are cheap (relative to the Test Book) so only can be used on one car at a time....

In the majority of cases, when both injector and glow plug lights are lit and the engine turns over, it will start BUT there is the odd occaision when a resynch is needed.

If the inertia switch is tripped it will usually flag a message on the dash.

I just called blackbox, they told me it will work on any p38 diesel and it is not locked to any individual car.

Question, if it is a resync thats required , whats to say it wont happen again, i would like to know what causes it in the first place.

mine looses sync, when tha batt run low cos its getting woken up. thats why i bought a box, if you remember i asked you year and was it petrol, as mine only does petrol make sure if you buy one, you get right one for your car..

it depends where and how long it is left, mine does it out side home. cos the wifi wakes it up, i took my rf plug off to stop this happening..

the one wire plug. DONT take the plug off with 3 wires on it, or your remote will not work. have you got it running yet..
