I also have an Intek system, and very happy I am with it too.

I'd advise buying new though, you run the risk of 2nd hand ones being cooked by people not knowing how to install them properly.

Which brings me onto my next point. Get an SWR meter and do it properly.

Absolutely right Matt ... I have a Midland 98 which is a simple unit but it is the antenna mounting and ground plane that are by far the most important things to get right. If you transmit with a bad groundplane you'll back feed into the unit and run the risk of blowing the circuits. A SWR meter will tell you if you've installed it properly. Good luck ;)
 
Just been into the loft and found 1 x GE (illegal circa 1977) 1 x York and 1 x Midland (both around 1981!) and even found a Satellite Lite dial-tune base loaded twig to go with them! I think I've still got a 1/8 wave whip somewhere!

Don't know if any of them still work, and might try them out one day!! Only need a couple of PL plugs and a SWR meter now!!
