Any idea what this is? Found it on the chassis by the battery tray and it looks like it came of a brown wire which disappears under the alternator - must have come of when I tightened the belt as I had to take the battery out to get to the alternator bolts. Its an original petrol but now with a P6 V8. The connector isn't clean so not sure if it was connected to anything.:

Is your alternator warning light working small wire is 12v from ignition via warning light to excite the windings. What type of alternator is or plug connector or three terminal bolts?

The charge light works (or it does now as it was intermittent). Alternator is a standard Rover V8 V belt pre serp type (70 amp I think). The connector is a bit fancy but don't look like it was connected as its corroded and I cant see anything it may have connected into. Doubt its to do with the washer bottle as its by the alternator which is on the opposite side to the washer bottle. I'll check if its live (as its a brown wire) and just tape it up for now.

Is it half of the housing for fitting an inline glass fuse?
Its a male plug so either fits into a sensor on tyhe engine or into a female somewhere. Need to get the torch out and find out where the brown cable originates.
