Want turn up the boost on my d1 300tdi auto give it somemore grunt

Can this be done

Or ne easy mods that can be done.thank you

Sorry not possible the 300tdi has a secret overboost destruct button If ya over boost it or alter the fueling an alarm sounds and The yanks laiunch a tomahawk Cruis missile at ya.

Search for pump tweaks and then before shortening your actuator, get an EGT probe or you will melt the pistons and screw up the turbo.

never seen it yet on a tdi and ive seen alot with altered wastegate over the years,only seen melted pistons with faulty injectors,and thats rare too

Hi, Adjust the wastegate rod, but you are advised to supply more fuel as well or you are wasting your time. To do this you can adjust the boost compensator on top of the fuel pump. The exact directions of how to tune the pump for more power are avilable on the net. Search for tuning the bosch VE injection pump. I think you will need to adjust the diaphagm by turning it to allow more fuel in, but this will adjust it right through the range. to get more fuel at a higher pressure you may have to grind a little off the nylon spacer under the diaphagm to allow the diapham to travel further. Anyway would not advise you do this without a pressure guage on the inlet manifold and a pyrometer to measure exhaust gas temp. You should be good to adjust up to max rated normal pressure at the manifold though, and this may give you more power if you are not currently making max. (1 bar)

it does on tdis, but obviously too an extent tweaking pump fitting bigger intercooler obviously more ,but first point of call would be to check timing is advanced as it should be

How do I advance my timing James? I have adjusted my pump, turned up my actuator but before this I checked my timing was spot on.

Now I have more power around town, although I would like a little more at higher speeds, but the engine has a fast tapping noise when drive, a bit like a noisy tappet, but I have checked those. Could this be pinking?

I forgot to mention that I also get just over 1 bar from the turbo.

remove front cover 3 x screw turn engine till pin will fit right through locking pump ,slacken 3 x pump flnge bolts turn pump nut 22mm or 7/8 clockwise against pin tighten 3 x bolt try engine repeat with smaller drill bits as pins ie start with 9.5 then 9 then 8.5 then 8 etc ,do it till diesel knock appears then back till just gone .thats optimum, some are at this with std setting up and can be felt whilst driving and some are somewhat retarded noise could be poor valve cap they can wear ,vac pump, poor exhaust gasket,diesel knock is usually noticed when occurs but the old peugots etc used to have it on cold start

yes ,the point about other engine was they were advanced for start up ,enough to give knock, you could do it without drill bits but is more precise with

Cheers James. I'll give it a go. It might give me a little more response at higher speeds but it does not sound like it will cure my tapping.

Here in Australia we don't have the wastegate. Its blanked off.

How do I increase the turbo boost ?

Does not seem to be an option to browes and insert photo?

If you have a turbo, you have a wastegate - you can't have one without the other.

You may be confusing the wastegate with the EGR valve, which as you said you don't have in Oz.

If you want to create more power from your TDi you are much better off doing the pump tuning mods before touching the turbo.

I now have a tdi auto with the fly by wire throttle, afm and all the other electrical bits.

I've heard these cannot be tweaked on the pump, is this true?

If its true and ecu monitored would the ecu supply more fuel if I tweaked the actuator?

Hi Brian, the fuel on an EDC car is electronically controlled as opposed the the mechanical fuel pump and it's adjustments that we have been discussing.

As a result, you cannot adjust the fuelling on your car in the same way.

I don't understand what you are trying to say in the highlighted phrase above - what do you mean by ecu monitored.........tweaked the actuator. What actuator?

Normally if you want to create more power and can't do the pump tweaks, you can De-EGR and De-Cat you car. This will not directly increase power in absolute terms, but it will make the car noticeable more responsive, which I'm guessing is what you are really after??

A De-cat front pipe costs £15+vat from Paddocks and a full De-EGR kit costs approx £20 from Ebay. Easy jobs to do and increase the efficiency of the engine.

I remember doing the De-Cat front pipe on a TDi 300 auto I had a few years ago and it really transformed it.

In addition and subsequent to the above, you can also get a re-chip of the ECU, but I would strongly advise you to:

1. Ensure that the car is fully and recently serviced with all new filters (especially the air filter) and oils;

2. Check your tyre pressures - 32 front; 36 rear;

3. Check to ensure no brakes are binding;

4. Check/clean your fuel sedimenter.

Make sure the car is running to it's optimum BEFORE doing any mods. Then do your mods in stages and in the order suggested above

Good luck

Dave
Don't bother with a replacement intercooler- far too expensive and too small on an autobox car to make significant difference, imo.

Thanks for that info mate. :)

The first job I did was decat and egr removal.

What I meant was, if the ecu is monitoring air flow and controlling the fuel flow, would it increase the fuel if I turned up the boost by shortening the actuator rod on the turbo.

I understand that all my electronics already increase power by about 20bhp but its still a slow old beast compared to everything else I drive so worth trying anything I can to increase power.

The engine and mechanicals are all fine and a service carried out and fluid changes done when I first brought it a few months ago.
