Hi people my 2001 range rover was linked up to a diagnostic machine yesterday and it came up with this fault ANTI THEFT ALARM SERIAL LINK FAULT does anyone know how to get rid of this or how to find out how to fix it as I want my rr back on the road asap thank you

Depends what diag you had it on. Don't know what a serial link fault would be. Dedicated diagnostics may give a more defined description. What exactly is the car not doing that is causing a problem what messages are you getting? Petrol/Diesel.

Hi wammers its not starting and saying eka lockout but it wont let me enter the code its 2001 y reg 4.6 v8

You need to get proper diag on it to sort it out. Find someone near you with a Nanocom to sort it with. You can then disable the alarm and find out what is wrong with it.
 
could it be a simple break in the wire from the becm to the ecu or something like that ?

Could be a lot of things. Proper dedicated diag and someone who knows how to use it can sort it, most of the other stuff won't simple as that.
 
wammers so if i buy a nanocom for my rr u are confident it will sort it ????/are the nanos good enough to tell you there is a break in the wire or things like that ?

It will tell you there is no signal but not why or where the break is if it is a break. Usually, no signal is just a sensor fault or a corroded connector, diagnosing which line the fault is on is the key, then it's a matter of checking the sensor, connector and wiring visually.
 
Datatek so it could be as simple as a corroded connector but i need to find which connector it would be as ive been told its the wiring from the bcem to the ecu under the bonnet as the becm seems to be working fine but ive got a dodgy passenger door lock would that stop the eka not being entered ?

Won't tell you which wire is broken but may give a better more defined fault message. At least with a Nanocom you can disable the alarm or disable the EKA code and be up and running and sort the problem at leisure rather than be stuck immobile.
 
oh so even if the alarms playing up so it wont turn off cause theres a problem with the connection the nanocom will disable it so its up and running ?

Passenger door lock would not stop the EKA being entered unless the BECM thinks the door is open. Nanocom allows direct entry of EKA. Connectors behind the kick panels in both front footwells are well known for corrosion.

Yes. You can disable the EKA code, it is than not needed to start the car. Passenger door lock problem is more than likely a corroded connector at base of A post not supplying power or signals to door outstation.
 
so let me just clarify that a nanocom would get it running???? sorry for the multiple questions but it baffles me how complex these rr systems are
 
I know this is a super old thread did you ever solve the problem I have the same code won't let me crank her and I can't get her to a dealership with the prices there charging
 
He's becm had to be removed. Diagnostics wouldn't of sorted that out.

Serial link fault means the ecu's are not talking to each other.

You mean you need to enter the EKA code but cannot?
 
If you are getting that fault in the engine ECU then it means that it hasn't received a valid code from the BECM.
This could be as simple as the passive immobiliser has kicked in and the engine ECU is saying that it doesn't have a code/won't let it start,
Or that the engine ECU and BECM have lost sync.
Or that the BECM won't let the vehicle start because it needs the EKA.

On a Thor, any time you read the engine ECU, and it isn't getting the immobiliser code transmitted from the BECM (or it's not receiving it, if there's a broken wire for example) then it will show this 'fault'. Once the vehicle is in a position where it will start (EKA entered, immobiliser off etc, then the 'fault' will go away.

It could be something as simple as it's lost sync (if the vehicle is cranking, but not starting). Or it could be a lockout problem if the central locking/alarm won't switch off, and you get 'ENGINE DISABLED' on the dash. That fault won't help with what's causing the problem - it's just saying that the engine ECU won't let the engine start because it isn't receiving a valid immobiliser code for whatever reason.
